A New PC - Any Techie Help?

Recommended Posts

I am on the point of a new PC which is to be exclusively  devoted to flight simming. my current machine will stick with Crusader Kings II, Stellaris, and things like that. I am looking through Chillblast which claim to have flight sim configured machines and the ridiculously priced one I am looking at has the following specs:

i7 6700k@ 4.6GHz
16GB DDR4 RAM
GTX 1080
Samsung PCI-E SSD 512GB
2 x 1TBGB Samsung 840 Evo SSD
1 x 2TB Seagate SHDD

Now, I am not a techie at all - no..no..no.. if the case is a nice colour, that is as deep as it goes for me. So, can someone tell me just how good those specs are for getting the absolute best out of airport and scenery detail? I know aircraft performance will be fine as my machine is a lot less than this and there are no issues with flight.

sounds good to me, but I am sure someone else with a more modern system will chime in, I have an i5 6600k with 16gig RAM linked to an old GTX 970 card and it runs P3D and XP11 very well so you should be fine.......

Going by just number comparison, yours is more impressive, my stats are:

  i5 4690K, 8GB RAM, GTX 960

So undoubtedly I could do better.. I do want to run P3D and XP11 on a new machine but are my OP stats going for overkill?

Hi Lucy,

I don't think you can really overkill the specs if you can afford it. What you posted above looks great!

Don't forget, you can get an extra £25 off Chillblast flight sim PC's because you are a Mutley's Hangar member, by quoting "mutleycode15"

good advise there Joe, Chillblast have some great stuff and quite a few on here have bought from them, I don't as I build my own....I say buy what you can afford, todays overkill could be out of date in 6 months, your specs in the OP look good to me.....

That's so true - so, 6 months to figure out how I'd go about upgrading it! :whis:

"mutleycode15" seems to have expired

The best thing about Chillblast in the UK and Jetline in the US is that they will build you a system that is specifically designed and tested to run flight sims. Great specs don't always mean they will run your flight sim at it's best. Best of luck on your upcoming new PC Lucy.:)

This machine is in their flight sim custom spec so I assume it will run the sims ok, but wanted some assurance and I think I have it now...oh I'll still dither about for another week before doing the inevitable, it's what I'm like. :)

I have a Chillblast PC with much the same spec as your proposed PC.  The spec seems great to me, my PC works just fine with P3D and FSX.

I can also recommend Chillblast, I had a problem with my graphics card and it was replaced within a week, and that included the return to Chillblast. I cant recommend them enough, they are a five star company in my opinion.

great recommendation, thanks John. I might be overly cautious when it comes to PC's, but I've been stung in the past. I will be ordering my new machine later this week, as soon as Joe has sorted out the expired discount code.
