Mutley Field Flight Adventures

Recommended Posts

On this thread I will be posting some flights that you will be able to fly from Mutley Field.

The intention is to build up a file of short but challenging, fun and scenic flights from our home airfield.

The flights are all intended to be flown with GA aircraft, and where neccessary I will suggest an aircraft to use.

All you need to do is copy and paste the flight plan into notepad and save it as a .PLN file and place it in your FSX folder

FLIGHT 1 - Isle of Wight Tour

This flight can be flown in any small GA aircraft, or maybe even take a helicopter and try and land on the Needles Lighthouse...

(I've kept the text for the flight plan small to keep the length of the post down!)

Flight 2 - Portland Navy Challenge

This one will test your short landing skills, the runway is under 1,000ft long. You will need to download the freeware VFR airfields package though. The link is in this forum

Flight 3 - Thames Tour

This is a flight along the southern coast of England taking in the White Cliffs of Dover before heading north to Southend, then turning west up the River Thames to enjoy London. The flight is a bit longer than the others, so something along the lines of a Baron 58 would be ideal for this one. All you need to do is copy and paste the flight plan into notepad and save it as a .PLN file and place it in your FSX folder

Hi, Cap - I'm not an FS9 expert, but I think you need to save the plan as a .PLN file in your My DocumentsFlight Simulator Files folder. Maybe one of the true gurus will advise...... :great:

Cheers - Dai. :woot:

The main problem (other than MS changing the way the flight plan is coded) is that in FS9 you cannot create your own waypoints like in FSX, so you need to know the co-ordinates and try to manaually create the flight plan in notepad. I will try and find a bit of time to see how it should be done later this week and let you know. Which flight is it you want to do first? That would be the best starting point!

After a lot of head scratching, I might have solved it!

Could someone please copy and paste the

quoted text
into notepad, save into My Documents/Flight Simulator Files as a .PLN file and try to load it in FS9 please.

The main problem is that some of the airport co-ordinates have changed, plus FSX appears to be a bit more accurate with how it creates the way points. But anyway, let me know if it works. It should turn out to be a VFR flight around the Isle of Wight at 2,500ft. If it works I shall try and attack the other flights before the week is out

Ahh, you can't beat the feeling of sweet satisfaction!

Glad to hear that is has worked, I'll get the others done ASAP. The only one I can forsee a problem with is the Portland flight as I used an add-on airport in FSX. I could still create the waypoints in FS9 and you could use an amphibian to land near the shore.

Once these are done I am (hopefully) going to start enjoying FS for myself once again, lol. I've been so busy lately with work at my VA that i've hardly had any time to fly at all. I'm quite looking forward to tomorrow afternoon and the ATWC final leg

For those still interested I've converted the 'Thames Tour' into FS9. Same procedure as before, copy and paste into notepad and save as a .pln file into your saved flights folder

Rob,

Sorry to trouble you, but I've tried to copy and paste your FP's but FSX seems unable to open the plan. BTW I'm saving it as per unicode, and naming it .pln; is that correct?

I think in FSX the flight plan file extension is "flt".

John

Close. It's .pln .flt is a saved situation file.

BTW, the FS9 plans will work fine in FSX, but the FSX plans presented on page 1 look to be broken - there should be a whole load of xml formatting that appears to be stripped out. Unfortunately that formatting is essential. Here's an example of how an FSX plan should look:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
