mutley 4,498
I had this sent to me from vacs007 - What may be small to you may be of huge significance to someone else, ask Bohn Fawkes:- "During World War Two I was in command of a B-17 bomber. On one particular mission we sustained direct flak hits from Nazi anti-aircraft guns. Even though our fuel tanks were hit the plane did not explode and I was able to land. On the morning following the air-raid I asked my crew chief for the German shells to keep as souvenirs of good fortune. The chief explained that eleven shells had been found in the fuel tanks, none of which had exploded. Technicians opened the shells and found them to be harmless, and with one exception, empty. The exception contained a carefully rolled piece of paper which contained the following message scrawled in Czech: "This is all we can do for you now." A courageous assembly line worker was disarming the shells and had scribbled the note. He could not end the war, but he could do something about saving lives." Martyn 9
Acts like these were quite common place in occupied countries, especially the tampering of explosives. If you do a search around the internet, you can find lots of info on sabotage. I refer to stories such as this when people start ranting about eastern Europeans 'coming over here and stealing our jobs'. We owe a hell of alot to the people of Poland, Czech Republic, this list goes on
