My first posted flight, ever!

Recommended Posts

Well guys.

After hanging around here for a couple of months I figured it were time for me to post my first complete flight.

Apart from being my first posted flight it's also the first flight I did after getting REX up and running.

The flight is a short hop (89 Nm) from Visby (ESSV) over the Baltic Sea to Kalmar (ESMQ) in a evaluation flight of a new aircraft I was considering as a new addition to my Air Hauler Hangar.

Our ride for the day is the Shorts 330, seen here cold and dark at dusk in Visby.

Pushed back and ready for taxi

Taxiing to the active (RWY 21 if I remember correctly)

A close up during taxi. If you look carefully through the 3rd window you can just make out Mr. Anderssons tie. Mr. Andersson is the Officer in charge of cargo securing on todays flight. This means he has to stand in the cargo hold during flight and keep our cargo in place. <img src='http://forum.mutleyshangar.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_yikes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':nea:' /> More on this later.

And we have liftoff

Climbing out, getting ready to raise the gear

A shot from the VC during our climb

Still climbing, with the setting sun in the background. We might even make to our destination before it gets dark!

Getting back to Mr. Andersson. Just look at him holding on to that cargo back there... As far as I understood management of the current owner of this bird had decided to do it this way instead of strapping the cargo down. They claimed it saved precious time in loading/unloading! <img src='http://forum.mutleyshangar.com/ipb/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/faint.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':nea:' />

I took a look around in the cockpit to get familiar with the panels, and found a Weather Radar. Great, but I guess management had it's finger in the purchase of this part... It's only a dummy that keeps on repeating the same patterns over and over again. :whis:

Let's take a look in the cargo hold and say "Hi" to Mr. Andersson

12_-_Cargo_hold.jpg

Hmm.. Where did he go to?? Perhaps he's a bit shy and hides among the crates...

Better leave him be, since ATC is pestering me to turn towards the main land and my approach

2D-panel if anyone is interested..

Closing in on the mainland, but first we have to pass over the island of and. Had we been flying over here IRL today we cloud have spotted the boats in the Volvo ocean race heading north towards Stockholm

Close up of the right side engine

16_-_Engine_closeup.jpg

Catching some of the last light of the day on the nose.

Finally we have ground under us again. By now we have also started our descent.

18_-_Dry_feet.jpg

Slowing her down to the approach speed around 90-100 knots..

19_-_Slowing_down.jpg

Three green lights, gear down

20_-_Gears_down.jpg

Guess we didn't beat the sunset, but we almost made it down

21_-_Sunset.jpg

Established on the glide scope, Autopilot guiding us down. But I don't like the looks of those trees in the approach path. Might have to take her down on my own.

22_-_Established.jpg

As we came closer the trees did look like they might be in the way, so I took control and flow us over them. So here we are, high and left of the mark!

23_-_Going_to_manual.jpg

Had to struggle to keep from drifting out to the left so I missed the touchdown, but here we are safely back on Terra Firma

24_-_Safely_down.jpg

Tower asked us to taxi to GA-parking, so we did... Best to keep them happy

25_-_Taxi_to_parking.jpg

Cargo delivered, and Mr. Andersson has reappeared! Good job there lad! :thum:

26_-_Cargo_delivered.jpg

As for using this in Air Hauler, I decided against it. With a range of only 550 Nm I doubt it would make a good addition. I can just fly the Cessna 208 back and forth instead.

Thanks for looking, hope you liked it.

Now then, Stu - that was an excellent debut flight for the Hangar! Thanks very much for sharing and taking so much trouble to present the screenshots and commentary so well. :nea:

You will certainly be a welcome contributor to the ATWC - go for it! :thum:

Cheers - Dai. :nea:

:thanks:

Glad you liked it. REX does make it alot easier to get good shots. And soon there will be one more shot from this flight in a screenshot competition close to you.

I was planning to bid for a leg in the current part of ATWC, but I was unable to get online during the bidding period, but I do plan to get involved the next time round.

As for Mutleys Field I will try to help in delivering some cargo if I can, but you guys are just to quick to snatch the jobs.

@Fighterpilot: Let's show these guys what us swedes are capable of  BTW, that Gripen model you used in your ATWC-leg. Where did you get it, and does it run in FSX?

That wasn't to expensive. Might have to get that bird since I can't find a freeware version of it. I'm trying to find as many swedish airforce planes as possible. So far I have a great freeware version of Draken (even if it's more than a handfull to get the engine running, and a not so great version of Viggen. I think I have an SK60 somewhere too, but I havn't tried it out yet.
