Fathers Day Present!

Recommended Posts

My lovely wife and delightful daughter and possibly my super intelligent son (if they can get him to crowbar his wallet open) are intending to give me the dosh for a father’s day present. :mrhappy:

So it's either the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme CPU cooler:

Or the Thermalright HR-03 VGA cooler:

Which do you think I should get? :help:

My graphics card is very noisy so that's an option, but I'm not that pleased with the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro anymore so would love the Ultra 120.

What do you think? :doh

How about you spend the money on taking your family out for a meal instead?

Or spend it on a door lock so they cant enter your study/computer room and disturb your simming :mrhappy:

Added to the check that's in the mail from Fred, you might have a tidy sum....

A: They won't let me.

b: They're taking me out for a meal.

If you understood what had happened to our family over the past couple of years, you would recognise my wife’s gesture for what it is, she is a wonderful women and doing her best to compensate for ‘certain things’.

My simming rigs in Daniels room, I can hardly ban him from his own room. :mrhappy:

Katy rarely enters and my wife lives elsewhere, so that leaves Scratchy, and he's a very competent PC engineer so useful in that respect. Scratchy also happens to be a very handy footrest during long haul flights, he keeps my feet warm in the winter also.

I'd forgotten about Freds contribution... should be at least a couple of thousand I would have though.

Hmm... perhaps a new PC build then.

Ultra 120 it is then Mart! (Or a new shed :mrhappy: )

That's very generous for a fathers day present, how did you manage that? I know, for being a wonderful father :help:

Cheers

I think it will be Mut, I'm not that impressed with the Arctic Cooler anymore, so I need to get one anyway.

Yes it is generous but as you know from our previous discussions, it's not really just as a result of the impending fathers day, it's also related to my lack of funding for pretty much anything these days and the rather one-sided spending of the past. (And other bad things) I'm sure you know what I mean. I will be contributing some toward it also.

I know you're going to slate me for this MartinW

Not at all Theo, I value your opinion. :yikes:

The Ultra 120 Extreme Note that’s the extreme not the basic Ultra is the best for cooling at the moment, it's load temps are fantastic. It doesn't come with a fan so you can fit the one of your choice. With the right fan, it beats anything else. That is until the iFX comes out.

It doesn't fit in some cases though as it's massive. There have been concerns about the mounting mechanism with some shimming it out to improve contact pressure.

I will probably fit the Sharkoon 2000; it's a 120 fan that moves loads of air but quietly. I already use the 120 1000 rpm version in my case and an 80 and they are whisper quiet and as I say move loads of air. In fact the Sharkoon fans when tested by Custom PC were about the only ones to do what the makers said, they got top marks.

As I said the Thermalright is desighned for a bigger 120 fan rather than a 90
