A day at the air show..

My dad and I left our wifes at home and went out to a local airstrip that had a small airplane/car-show yesterday.

Had a great day that ended with a english WWII bird doing some aerobatics and comming in for landing.

Thank god for digital cameras. I ended up snapping a whopping 435 shots!!!! Could have been more, but the battery in my camera died on me. A selection of those shots will come up later, but here�s a little teaser..

I was standing behind this old lady when they fired up the engines for a short flight.. lot's of smoke, and a bit windy :smile:

Sure is, the only thing that isn't patriotic about it is the fact that it's still registred in Congo.... ;)

As far as I understood the owner was flying this very plane as a cargo freighter in and around Congo in the late 70's, but had to leave in a hurry due to a revolution and ended up flying it all the way home...

Ok guys, more from this weekends airshow as promised.

First of I just have to say thanks to Airliners.net and all that contribute there for priceless info on identifying what kind of planes I got shots of. The only plane on display that had any kind of information about the plane was the Dizzy, and that one I would have recognised anyway...

Let's start of with the Dizzy that I already introduced you to.

Starting up the right engine

And taxiing back to her parking spot. I got a chance to take a peek inside to, but by then my camera had run out of batteries... My dad got a shot from the cookpit that I can try to get my hands on later on if anyone is interesed.

Moving on to some other views. First of a sailplane. She was beeing towed up to height as we arrived at the airfield.

After some aerobatics she came down for a highspeed pass.

Gathering speed with the tail of the Dissy, and a swedish coast guard S&R helo in the foreground.

A selection of helicopters were present too.

First of is a eurocopter from the swedish police, again with the S&R helo in front.

Next up a schweizer 300c in the colors of the swedish airforce. The text on the tail says "Swedish airforce museum"

Moving on to the regular airplanes in no particular order.

The plane taxiing in the middle landed as we were making our way back from the end of the runway. Unfortunatly I didn't get any closer than this. Not sure exactly what kind of plane it is..

A flyby by a plane designated as SK16 by the swedish airforce (All planes designated as SK are used for pilot training). As far as i'v understood it's a North American 66 Harward.

This one I'm not sure of at all, but I think it's a De Havilland DH 82A Tiger Moth. If I'm right it was also used as a training plane for the swedish airforce.

With a registration starting with se-x this one did turn up a lot of hits in googles, but nothing useful in this case. I think it's a Lacer of some sort.

There where two Saab Safirs in airforce colors. This one is a 91D according to airliners.

And the other one is a 91B according to the same source. Not sure what the difference between the two are.

I was so surprised by the small propeller on the 91B I just had to take a shot of it.

Continuing down the line with a De Havilland DHC-1 Chipmunk 22

I really like the looks of this Morane-Saulnier MS-893A Rallye Commodore 180, but I wouldn't try to pronounce the name after a couple of beers.

A piper cherokee. The name on the side is a reference to a character in a swedish childrens book. The character is a white cat with a pink nose..

Two Republic RC-3 Seabees were standing next to each other. I think this model was once used by the swedish post service, but i'm not sure.

Two Super Cubs were present too. Thanks too FSX I was able to identify the model of these on site...

Finishing of the line of "real" airplanes where an Antonov AN-2P in the colors of the east german national airline. I have actually been on board one of these before. There's one standing in an aviation museum in Visby that was used by soviet refugees during an escape to sweden. But that one isn't in flying condition due to damage from the crash it suffered when it ran out of fuel.

And just as we were thinking there was nothing more to see, this guy turned up over the airfield. I'm sure everyone is familiar with the plane in question.

And that sums up the aircraft part of the display.

Another part of the show, and much larger in numbers were the cars. Just to give a hint of the diversity of cars present I'll give you the two extremes.

First up is a Model A Ford from 1928 in very mint condition.

And on the other end of the spectrum a much more modern Dodge Viper.

unfortunately, i'm not able to see any of these (probably lovely) photos at work due to PhotoBucket and ImageShack being banned, and so all images hosted there are blocked, but as of 6pm tonight i'll be home and will see if i can help identify those aircraft you're not able to...

EDIT:

ok, i'm home now so lets see what we can get for ya...

This one, possibly a Miles M14A Magister, altho i'm not able to find any more pictures of it in Swedish Air Force colours.

you were correct also about the SU-29, it says its name just below the canopy...

also correct on this one, its the Tiger Moth:

Correct again with the YAK-52, and to top it off the Spitfire is infact a mark LF.XVIe

so, there we have it, all ID'd and correct, how'd you like that matey?!

As for the Miles M14A Magister I can't find any records of the swedish airforce ever operating one of those.

Did some more digging on historic swedish air force planes, and I suspect it might be a Klemm Kl 35.

Four different versions of the plane was used as training aircrafts from 1939 untill 1947 under the designation SK15.

Very welcome mate, its always good to walk away with a full book of serials and types seen at a show, and if you cant then it helps to have those who can pitch in and advise, so glad to be of service.

As for the Klemm, i think you're spot on. I can see why i thought it was a Magister at first glance, but looking at the klemm, they do look very much alike so i put it down to that!
