mutley 4,498
METAR = EGHI 111220Z 24009KT 210V270 8000 -RADZ FEW012 BKN022 15/11 Q1014 So weather not brilliant but good enough for our trip out to the Needles and back I had to digitally enhance these shots as they were so gloomy. Flying from Lower Upham Airfield, a grass strip about 3 miles from Bishops Waltham, home of Mutley Enterprises! WE were flying an Ikarus C42 100hp, this little cutey, officially microlite So having permission to cross the active we performed our power checks on a holding point Having taken off from runway 22 we headed east towards Bishops Waltham, my house is just visible! Having followed the River Meon down to the Solent we pass Lee on the Solent airfield to our left, no gliding activity today but some circuit action going on. The River Medina and Cowes in the distance there was plenty of sailing activity going on. My instructor Mungo's friends were sailing today so a quick waggle of the wings! Alum bay to the left and I have just handed control back to Mungo, it's great to get feedback from the aircraft on my actions Just getting the aircraft to bank as a secondary affect of left rudder, not my favourite manoeuvre! There's our turning point, the Needles Loving it! Back over the chalk cliffs and just past the old wartime rocket launching site, Alum bay again in the distance. Heading back to the mainland, we are on Sandown airfield frequency, there's not a lot of activity today. Marchwood/Fawley power station, a site I have seen literally thousands of time in flight sim inbound to Mutley Field! Southampton Water and the River Hamble 13th Century town square of Wickham My house top left segment, I can see Lisa's car in the drive, she must be back from riding already! Now the tricky bit! We are aiming for the small copse of trees to the left of the nose Spot the airstrip? I can (Just!) Full flap, descending fast, we have a sharp left turn around this copse. Lined up Just overhead the cattle and an immaculate landing from Mungo! All in all a very enjoyable morning, next up a re-creation in flight sim :nervious: Thanks for viewing. /Mut
ddavid 149
Well done, Mate - worth waiting for, eh? And a clear day as well - some people are lucky - but, got to say, you deserve a bit of exciting R&R after all the effort you put into The Hangar ..... :nervious: Excellent shots - from the Captain's seat, too, no less! Thanks for sharing.... Cheers - Dai. :jealous:

wisemanp 0
Nice shot's Joe, looks like you had a great time! Must feel...interesting, to be on approach to such a small strip! It's interesting to see all those features around the Solent; they formed a Case Study for my AS Geography course!
needles 1,013
Brilliant Mut' Jealous as hell. My namesake looks great from the angle you took the shot. It sort of scared me when you asked if we could spot the airstrip.....I couldn't until you were about to land.
JPS 0
Wow, fantastic shots the scenic views are to die for . Grass strip flying looks like a very nice challenge, hopefully I can give that a go sometime in the future.
