mutley 4,498
Ok you lot are being slow today, how about another picture clue so you can see more of the airport? Don't read too much into the livery of the aircraft as Jan kees has not done one for this squadron yet but the aircraft could be relevant. Cheers
hurricanemk1c 195
Ascension Island? A long shot I know, but that was my first thought

rob16584 42
Is it SCIP Mataveri Airport?
mutley 4,498
Getting warmer Rob, This should give it away. A Beagle was first to land here; but not with a bone, It's known for a Mango, although it's not grown; Defending a canal was it's original aim, Today it's not needed and everything's Tame; Now I hope I haven't put a fly in the ointment, Post right now to avoid disappointment! Not quite up to John's standards

mutley 4,498
aha!Seymour field in the Galapagos! Wasn't it the 40th BG (with Liberators) that was based there for a while? edit: check this: http://www.galapagos.to/WW2/ Well done JanKees! I looked for one of your re-paints of one of the following BG's based there to include in my shot above, but couldn't find one, never mind I found a few other of your excellent paints! EDIT: By the way, this shot came from the same place you linked to, a fascinating site! Can you post the next location? Cheers, Joe
jankees 917
Ok, I can try. During one of my travels, I stumbled across this: It has some similarity with the previous field, and though it looks deserted now, I have actually landed on this once, as the passenger of a DC-3, during the local centenary... jankees 917
oh dear, nothing yet... similar aircraft from the air forces of two different nations flew from this field, to attack yet another country. The field was universally unpopular with the crews, due to the remoteness, but also because of the local temperatures, which in summer rarely dipped below 100F...

jankees 917
we're getting warmer... but you have to think real hot!! Here's the layout: btw, I'm still looking for someone to make it for me for FSX, it is (was) so secret that it's not in there...
mutley 4,498
G'day JanKees, does this look familiar?
jankees 917
It most certainly does! It was always great to drive past the airfield. We'd be bumping around for hours over little dirt roads, and then you'd have a kilometer of smoooooth running over the runway, allowing your kidneys to return to their original position, before the bone shaking would start again...we were based in Marble Bar. I asked the guys at FTX to inlcude it in AU-RED, and they did some test models (see below), including Marble Bar and the nearby Comet gold mine, but they disappered in the final version... And in this case, I did do a lot of paints for this field (see above), the USAAF 380th BG and the RAAF no 25 Sqn both used it as a base to attack targets in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia).
