rob16584 42
The weather report forcast good weather this morning at LFLJ, so we hopped into our aircrraft for an early morning flight. There could only be one aircraft for the flight ahead of us: the Twin Otter The airport was quiet this morning, most of the italians are probably settling in to watch Ferrari in the GP qualifying, so we were able to get a quick start up and clearance to the runway We taxied past the terminal and the big iron. I think our flight will be more entertaining than theirs! We had to hold short to allow a Malev flight take off for Budapest But before long it was our turn to begin the take-off roll 'ATWC002 contact departure and good luck' Departure cleared us straight up to our cruise altitude of FL170, where we enjoyed some nice weather. Looks as though the weather man has got it right for a change The altitude was high enough to clear the terrain, but low enough to give us a good view After a short while ATC began to direct us towards our final approach course, which for a change didn't involve flying into a mountain I thought the weather was meant to be good this morning? It looks as though things are clearing up again Or maybe not! We are now cleared into Courcheval, tower ATC has given us permission to land. The problem being that we don't have the airport in sight Not the best descent angle Still searching for the airport Finally! We have Courcheval in sight, and it looks like we are a bit high Time for a steep descent Almost there, just need to be careful not to descend too far! Time to start leveling out and ascend again so that we get a nice touchdown on this steeply sloped runway Level off, power off and reversers at the ready Finally down to earth, just need to remember not to slow down too much or we will roll back down the hill The mountain is the reason for the crazy descent angle Parked up at the terminal. I'm off to grab a bacon butty and a cuppa and watch the GP Qualifying Over to you Brian
ddavid 149
Had me on the edge of my seat there, Rob - an exciting end to what, initially, was a rather sedate Leg! Great shots and an excellent commentary - thanks for sharing... Cheers - Dai.

allardjd 1,853
Nice work, sir, both the flight and the post. Pretty ugly weather to be in the mountains with. John

rosariomanzo 545
Has it been nice to have all passengers inside your cockpit during that steep descent? Nice flight, indeed!
Aircraft Aviation 2
What a crazy decent!
wisemanp 0
Great stuff Rob, I would have loved to have been on board for all that scenery! I don't doubt a Twotter, but can they really get ATRs in there?!
stu7708 244
Great shots Rob!! Steep decents in the Twotter must be something of a trade mark for you... This one looked even steeper than your aproach into Dutch Harbor during the last ATWC
