Future destination ideas

Recommended Posts

Hi,

In our search for destinations we try to add destinations that are interesting or have challenging approaches as you witnessed in Rob's excellent ATW002 flight.

So in order that you may get a chance to fly somewhere you would really like to go or see featured in the challenge please post here and give a reason why you chose that destination, eg short runway, challenging approach, high altitude, beautiful scenery, historical, interesting facts, that sort of thing .

So all we need is ICAO and airport name and comments as above.

If there only were a good scenery pack of it the Azores are a very scenic place with some nice places to land..

Biggest place as far as I know is Joao Paulo II (LPPD) on the main island. Some shorter strips are also available in the area. Sao Jorge (LPSJ) is just over 4000 ft, along with Graciosa (LPGR).

I had a narrow approach somewhere in switzerland during an AirHauler job... But after looking at the shots in needles PIREP I think we already stopped at that airport...

I'll do a check in my AH logs at home, but i looked very familiar...

A short strip in my favo(u)rite location - Aspen CO03. A truly magical approach, especially at this time of year and, IMHO, impossible in anything that won't stall under 65 KIAS.

More to come .... :thanks:

Cheers - Dai. :woot:

I don't know if it has already been proposed.

Reggio Calabria, Italy (LICR), circling rwy 33.

Real world pilots need a special license to land here.

The last words the captains says in the video are "she made me sweat!" :whis:

P.S. do you really think I love circlings? :nea:

Nice video Ros, I hope you will be making a landing straight from an orbit in your ATC flight? :clapping:

We can always create a mini challenge of hair-raising approaches!

Cheers

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I am interested in participating in the ATWC.

Are there any legs available? How do I join in?

Hi Richard,

I have got your pilot registration but I am at work at the moment so I will mail you your pilot number and banner when I get home tonight.

There are two ways of getting a flight. The main way is to wait for the next section of around 10 flights to be released, at the current pace that will be around two or so weeks away. The second way is getting a flight which can't be made or is missed by a pilot (Like ATW015) and I put it out for immediate bid.

When the next section is almost due, I mail all the registered pilots to let them know that the next section is due for release and the routes available. Then the new section departure board is posted and there is a set time the bidding window opens, I try to allow for the fact that we have registered pilots from Australia, Africa, Europe, Canada and the USA when setting this time but I won't be able to please everyone.

The rules page is here http://atwc.mutleyshangar.com/rules.htm there is more info there.

If you have any more specific questions then post them back here.

Cheers

Joe

KASE (Aspen, Colorado USA)~

You can only land on one runway

Located at nearly 8,000 feet

Surrounded by mountains on all 4 sides

strait down a mountain face glideslope

nearly always bad weater

no more than a 95' wingspan aircraft

No landings at night (no airport lights)

Aerosoft has a great Aspen scenery

Sounds like all of the ingredients for a AWTC :whis:

You are right there Remington, I'm sure Rob can put it on the list as we are still open to suggestions for the ongoing route.

If you like high altitude and difficult approaches then we have just the thing coming up in the next week or so. Keep an eye out for an announcement (Or have a quick peep at the new sub-forum underneath the Pireps forum :whis: )

Cheers

What about SABA in the FlyTampa TNCM pack...

a 1,300 ft. runway... and a cliff at the end. I tried it the first time in a ATR-72... its a good thing I was approaching too fast... I had enough airspeed to get back in the air and fly back to TNCM.

Check out this picture!

Hi Remington,

I think we have done Saba, certainly we have done TNCM in the last two challenges. Of course, with the runway being as short as is it is, it does limit the destinations we can include but you never know!!!

Cheers
