hurricanemk1c 195
Welcome one and all to the Around The World Challange - Leg 7! After Axel's unfortunte FSScreen failure, I stepped in to fill the hard gap left. Hopefully you'll get another leg Axel! So, stuck in Mombassa, we need a fast ride. Luckly, the Royal Air Force detached 617 Sqn with their aircraft to Mombassa, for a tour of the world So, here goes. Time to brag a TSR-2. Me (with baton in suitcase) : Wing Commander Rochelle, can I 'borrow' one of your simply stunning aircraft? Rochelle : No Me : Are you sure this won't help? (Pulls blue object out of suitcase) Rochelle : Oh, you're from Mutley's Hangar! Of course, let me help you suit up. That was successful! Suited up, we walked to XS663, AJ-T. Inside the 'pit', W/Cdr Rochelle talked me round. He'll be in the back seat, making sure I don't crash it! Pointy Above Canopy closed, engines started Taxi Testing the airbrakes Unique nose-gear extension - shorter take off Waiting for this WoAFI LTU A330 to land - just started installing them! Ready Get off the runway!!!! Re-heat on, time to go! V1, Rotate V2 Autopilot engaged 'Enviromentally freindly aircraft' - where? Nearing the speed of sound Climbing up The beautiful sea, sun and TSR-2 at FL350 Some mountains down there - perfect TF training! Quickly down in the groove Upside down - ooh look, the ground Bomb doors open Skimming the top - a USAF fighter pilot once said at Red Flag : Those RAF boys really spilt the rocks! Went up a bit, now coming down! Screaming down Sea skimming Airport Port Elizabeth on the Moving Map On finals - forgot the aprroach shots! Airbrakes out A smokey touchdown Nose down, slowing Taxing to the terminal Airbrakes and bomb doors open for servicing Stopped, nose gear extended, canponies open, shut down So, that's it. Leg 7 flown at times up to Mach 2.5! Hope you enjoyed! Route was direct GPS
mutley 4,498
Hold on, I've got jet lag!! A classic action post Kieran great shots and commentary, I am glad you made it safely down as it looked at one point like you had the reheat and the spoilers out on the approach! Is that the fastest aircraft we have had on the challenge? Thanks for getting us "safely" to Port Elizabeth! Cheers

allardjd 1,853
Cool AC. It's a shame it was cancelled. Thanks for helping out by taking this flight. John
ddavid 149
Like I said - "You're the Man, Mr K."! And you brought in 617 Squadron, to boot - my cup overfloweth! Cheers - Dai.
hurricanemk1c 195
Thanks for all the kind comments! Is that the fastest aircraft we have had on the challenge? Concorde can do Mach 2.2, and TSR-2 was designed to do Mach 2+, but I did take her up to 'overspeed' at M2.
rob16584 42
Great shots Kieran, thanks for stepping in
wisemanp 0
Well done Kieran, I knew you would save us! A high adrenaline leg, does the baton suffer from jet lag?
allardjd 1,853
...and some explosives, John what is in this baton before I find out by using the contense of this box... ...does the baton suffer from jet lag? The actual material and contents shall remain a closely guarded secret, however it's self-sterilizing and is guaranteed not to rust, bust or collect dust. Further, it will not rip, run, ravel or rot. Beyond that, I'm not at liberty to reveal anything. Oh, there's this - if you have an electrical failure at night, it may exhibit some natural luminosity that could be helpful in seeing your instruments, but in any case, try not to stow it directly under your seat if you plan to have children someday.
