SEATAC 400
I took off in a C-130 from Portsmouth, ME. and headed up toward New Foundland, in search of the remnants of Tropical Storm Earle (I'll post those later on). After about 1,200 miles of flying I did not feel like going all the way back to Portsmouth so I checked the GPS for the nearest airport and it said there was an airbase called Primorsko Akhtarsk (URKP) about 100 miles to the East so I headed there. The only thing is, when I checked Google it said that this airbase is actually located in Russia just off of the Sea of Azov North of the Black Sea. Thousands of miles from where I was. But I headed there anyway. It seems to be misplaced, notable mainly for the fact that it looks like a floating airport. Have I stumbled upon a secret floating Russian airbase, complete with a MIG-29. Is Putin up to something or does FSX simply have a glitch? You guys can check it out for yourself in FSX. Here are the pics that I took. Ovehead shot

SEATAC 400
N46 3.13 W38 11.65 Google earth shows just water in the middle of the North Atlantic. Go to URKP in FSX.

wingit 0
I think you will find that the USA built it there so that they don't need the bases in the UK any more.
mutley 4,498
I gotta check this out!
mutley 4,498
Can't see it on mine and URKP doesn't seem to exist either. Perhaps it's some rogue scenery?
SEATAC 400
That's weird Joe. That airport doesn't show when you select go to airport in FSX? It does exist in the real world. I googled it.
mutley 4,498
Sanity check Rich, URKP?
SEATAC 400
I'm telling you Joe, I'm not losing my mind. Well, at least as far as this airport goes. You don't see this in yours?
ddavid 149
Primorsko-Akhtarsk AB is just inland from the east coast of the Sea of Azof - which connects to the Black Sea - about 100 km south of Mariupol. P-A AB's position is N46.060606/E38.238686, so the missing minus sign in your sim's airfield position look up table puts this airfield in the Atlantic! Nice puzzle - well spotted! hurricanemk1c 195
No sign of it in my FSX

stu7708 244
I have that one too, plus one more that I can't remeber the designation of.. also russian.. I think me and John narrowed it down to a problem with the AFCAD:s that comes with Traffic X in another tread somewhere here.. The real position is 46.03.25.04N 38.14.29.10E but in the AFCAD they set it to 46.03.25.04N 38.14.29.10W. I even tried to set the correct coordinates for the airport in some editor, but it had to be edited for every segment of runway, taxiway etc. Plus I think it also turned out to be a mirror image of the real thing, so to get it right you would have to rebuild the whole airport from scratch Found them by chance when looking for a new AirHauler base. EDIT: Here's the topic where me and John talked about this... http://forum.mutleyshangar.com/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=3658
ddavid 149
Thanks for the HU on the details, Stu - most interesting. Yep, it's traffic-X, all right - I've got the culprits too. Since you asked JF in November, John, any further word on this? Cheers - Dai.
mutley 4,498
John is on vacation at the moment but this does ring a bell, I use Ultimate Traffic so that may be why I don't have the airport at all
stu7708 244
Since there has been no new service packs or updates for Traffic X since May 2009 I'm guessing they just didn't care!

SEATAC 400
Very interesting. Thanks for the info guys. I wonder, since I use Traffic X and Joe uses Ultimate Traffic, does this mean that Traffic X added this airport and put it in the wrong place, or that Ultimate Traffic deleted it? I mean, I asssume this is a default airport in FSX.
stu7708 244
I doubt that Ultimate Traffic would delete a default airport.. so I'm guessing that Traffic X added it.

I have a couple of databases detailing default FSX airports and I couldn't find reference to this one. Who would have thought this would have provoked such discussion!
