Recommended Posts

Just to let you know I am sat here in Guadeloupe, in the bar, with Mulletman after having a successful flight from Saint Maarten.

I will post first thing tomorrow as the 36 hours since Sam's post (Yes Sam 36 not 28 :mrhappy: ) is not up until 04:36BST tomorrow :mrhappy:

Cheers

:mrhappy: to leg 47.

This is probably one of my ambitious posts to date  I video'd the flight and took screenshots as we flew. Dave was no help as ever as he spent most of the flight sleeping off last nights excesses, much to Sharon's annoyance! You may look at some of the shots and think "No way!" Well artistic licence comes into play!

Most of these shots you will recognise in the video. One word about the video, I was running FSX at pretty much top settings. FRAPS I found is a FPS killer under these conditions so you'll notice that too.

The video link is at the end of the post

Yes Sam, Dave (and the Legacy), Sharon and I have been making the most of our time in paradise!

We had a do in the Rum Jumble Bar. Sam passed out after two Babycham's so the crew for the next flight decided to get an early night, I sat up with some books.

The history of the island is quite long and interesting :bored: (Wake up Dave!) The island of Sint Maarten-Saint Martin is the smallest land mass in the world to be shared by two different nations. Only 37 square miles are owned by France and the Netherlands Antilles.

atwc47_map.jpg

The French territory covers about two thirds of the island and is technically a part of Europe and the European Community. The Dutch side is a member island of the Netherlands Antilles and part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but not considered European territory.

Saint Maarten is the home of the Caribbean's largest lagoon, Simpson Bay Lagoon, landlocked with the exception of two narrow channels with draw bridges.

I was up early enjoying the sunrise.

The airport is early to rise too, the surrounding hotels are a spotter's dream.

atwc47_sr2.jpg

I was surprised to find out I had been walking along "Mullet Bay Beach" That Fred sure is a lucky bloke to own that! A shot from Google.

Sharon was having a good clean up and polishing the Baton.

atwc47_1.jpg

Here we are pushing back and starting the engines, I was fumbling (for want of a better word) with the FMC.

atwc47_2.jpg

There's already a lot of movements, the early morning arrivals are filling up the apron.

atwc47_3.jpg

The sun worshippers are yet to get their position.

atwc47_4.jpg

OK we're ready, turn up the sound!

atwc47_5.jpg

A beautiful rotate if I might say...

atwc47_6.jpg

In the video you will notice the nose was pitched up to an almost impossible angle but the twin Rolls-Royce AE3007's powered us through!

atwc47_7.jpg

We are going to do a circuit around the island.

atwc47_8.jpg

There's Grande Case TFFG in the French quarter.

atwc47_9.jpg

Dave took this one, I think there's something going on between them two, they're inseparable at the moment :wub

Overhead TNCM now heading South with the birds! You can clearly see Mullet Bay Beach below, Ah memories!

atwc47_11.jpg

The business end.

atwc47_12.jpg

Our clearance gave us FL200.

atwc47_13.jpg

We've just passed the ANU VOR and on our way to the next intersection at KASKI

atwc47_14.jpg

Yeah? Whatever! :eyebrow:

atwc47_15.jpg

Gear down, it's only a 160 mile flight, about 20 to go.

atwc47_16.jpg

Flying the standard Northern approach STAR

atwc47_17.jpg

Mutley bringing us in nicely.

atwc47_18.jpg

Just a small correction, I turned the AP off early.

atwc47_19.jpg

Touched down on terra firma, a nice flight.

atwc47_20.jpg

I thought I would run amok in Paintshop

atwc47_21.jpg

In our position, in true VIP fashion, welcome to Le Raizet!

atwc47_22.jpg

As usual Fred is watching in the terminal striking a pose with his posse !

I hope you enjoyed this flight, now if you can stomach it, here's the vid!

Great shots and excellent commentary - well done, Joe and Dave, you make a good team! Seems that young Sharon's doing well, too.....

Loved the Vid, Joe - magic music and perfect editing - sometimes I think you're wasted on us Old Hangarians - but many thanks for your time!!

Cheers - Dai/David.
