IcedUpPitotTube 0
Hello everyone. I have decided to do the "Australian Tour", meaning I do around Australia hops. NOTICE: I will not be doing Orbx scenery because 1) I do not have enough money 2) My computer is not good enough. Please vote on what airports I should go to... keep in mind some airports are closer than others, so formulate a route in your mind before you vote. If it seems that I forgot a key airport somewhere in Australia, than post it. I will compile a list of airports to fly to once I declare voting finished. Happy Voting! P.S. I will be building a new computer in probably about a year, so I maybe will do this again, but with much better graphics and Orbx scenery.
Aidan 1
Shame your not doing orbx world ;( Uhmm, the scenery is horrible, and not trying to sound rude, but I feel it won't be "exciting."
IcedUpPitotTube 0
Yeah, Acez, I know I know how bland it looks without Orbx. No offense, but I'm just using this to get a feel for the prime screenshot layouts of this forum. More of a screenshot test.
jankees 917
I'd skip them all if you're not using orbx scenery, or use a very FAST aircraft, mach 2 at least...
ManuelL 0
Even without the OrbX scenery you might consider downloading the OzX and Ant's freeware airfields and hop between them. They are all beautiful to look at.
IcedUpPitotTube 0
I'll have a look at OzX. I actually have some of Orbx's freeware scenery, if you'd like to see that. I'm sure everybody would. And jankees, I have an SR-71 Blackbird ready to suit your needs, except: 1) Give me your credit card to pay for the expenses 2) Sharon is prepping it for the ATWC
stu7708 244
I'd have to agree with the bland look of Austraila in it's default shape. I haven't tried the OzX stuff my self, but I have been lurking around there, and from what I understand there's also a freeware terrain mesh made by Holger Sandmann (the brain behind Tongass Fjords and OrbX Pacific Fjords) that could be worth looking at.. Not sure where to find it though... EDIT: Found the download link http://myftx.com/FTX_AU_BLUE/FTXAUHOLGERMESH100_SP3.zip It's a 76m mesh, so should be a big boost to your terrain compared to the default... mutley 4,498
Well I voted for all of them! Starting at Brisbane and heading south to Launceston should make for a nice adventure. I would have to agree with the chaps though about the scenery, there is some demo scenery available of FTX Tasmania Here and other freeware airports available here so at least two of your destinations would be covered? Otherwise just use the default scenery, I have a feeling the reporting will make a great post anyway, looking forward to it Cheers, Joe
Tim_A 997
The last two on your list (Launceston & Port Macquarie) are Orbx Freeware (Sydney is the only one that isn't an FTX airport!) Also free are Redcliffe, Lilydale, Bussleton, Cunderdin, Port Lincoln. Plus a host of others from Anthony Lynch and of course the 300+ OZx strips. I don't know how well they blend with the default landscape, but something is better than nothing, right? The two "key" airports you have missed IMHO, are Alice Springs and Ayers Rock. I'd also add Jandakot (Perth) and Darwin. I've been working my way round Australia for about a year now (started in Hobart, then North through Tas, Vic and NSW). I'm being a completist[+] and touching wheels at every airport. I've nearly finished NSW (with several breaks for sanity[++] along the way!), and anticipate another year before I've finished the whole of Oz! Some of the things I've learned about Austrailia: * Launceston is pronounced Lawn Cess Ton, unlike Lawn Stun in the UK * It's a damn sight bigger than it looks! * MAMBA - Miles And Miles of Bloody Australia (a common expression) * The interior is known as GAFA - the Great Australian F... All * If you fly online, "Ooroo" means "frequency change approved" (ie "See ya!") -- [+] Complete idiot, more like [+++] [++] and sanitation [+++] Footnotes in a forum post? How wierd is that! hurricanemk1c 195
I also voted for all of them!
IcedUpPitotTube 0
Thanks guys, why did I not think of the Orbx demos? Downloading them right now! And Tim, Perth, Alice Springs, Ayers Rock (Uluru), and Darwin are not in the poll, but I will consider them.
mutley 4,498
I thought this was just a first leg! I wondered why there were no easterly destinations! Thanks for the reminder about Aussie culture Tim, made me chuckle..* * There's nothing wrong with footnotes

Thanks for the reminder about Aussie culture Tim, made me chuckle..* * There's nothing wrong with footnotes Lol, if you wanted a first leg, than my tour would have to cover the Maldives, South Asia, New Zealand, and Tahiti as well. But I'm already finalizing plans for my first flight. Orbx demos FTW!
IcedUpPitotTube 0
Sorry guys, this has to be postponed for a while. I have my ATWC coming up, and also two separate projects. Here are my priorities: 1) ATWC 2) A secret project (will post on forums when done) 3) Australian Tour 4) GMAX modeling a U2 (still in plans)
