ddavid 149
Picked up a video of an old film (Is that a clue?- Ed) the other day and saw this: And, yes, it is an autogyro - some say the pre-descessor of the helicopter - as developed by a certain Mr Ciervas. But, what was the film, eh? I'm sure you know! Cheers - Dai.
allardjd 1,853
There was an autogyro in "The Rocketeer" from the early 90s, but that's probably not the one you have in mind. John EDIT: I'm going to take a wild guess here and say "The Thirty-Nine Steps". JDA

stu7708 244
I seem to recall an autogyro in an early Bond movie too (prehaps even in Dr. No), but I can't recall that I ever saw one of those in black and white...

ddavid 149
First off - sorry I haven't posted the answer - busy with "homework"!! And - Yes - John, you were right! It is the autogyro as designed and built by Juan de la Cuerva. This magical machine appears in Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 film "The 39 Steps" - I found an old video-tape version and was tickled to find that the autogyro had been included. Some film buffs say that this is the 'secret weapon' that the spies are trying to smuggle out of the country. Now, I've read the book several times and Buchan doesn't disclose this particular detail... So - Well Done, John - and thanks for your interest, guys! Cheers - Dai.
allardjd 1,853
Dai, I was able to find a list of films with autogyros (is there anything Wiki doesn't have a list of?) and that one seemed like the kind of film you'd be interested in. John
