Aircraft Aviation 2
The penultimate-to-the-penultimate flight sees our afforementioned pilot Alain (who, unfortunately, lost his first officer, Nick, after he tried to steal the baton) fly us to BIKF, Rekjavik, in Iceland. First officer-ing this flight will be Dave; friend of Alain and also pilot of Leg 013. Late afternoon on a cold, rainy day... A beautiful ANA 767 lay upon the tarmac of the small airport of Narsarsuaq. Our pilots quickly sprinted across the scuffed taxiways to get into the nice warm cockpit of the 767-300. Alain was pleased to see the aircraft had been fitted with winglets. Alain: Whoa. Look at those winglets. Dave: Hot! Cold and dark: Workload began to intensify when the pre-flight procedures were kicked off by Dave. Dave: Master Battery ON Alain: Yup Dave: I do believe you're meant to say something more formal. You know, like, affirm, check, something along those lines. Alain: Wilco Alain: I'll align the IRS. Dave: Affirm. I'll handle the papers. Give me a moment. Dave: Okay. Looks like our route is sorted. Dave: The CDU's still dead. Any ideas? Alain: It's because the contrast is nabbed out. Give me a second. Alain: Perfect! Dave: Could I have a peek at the approach plates a second? Alain: Sure, no problem. Dave: Ahhhh. ILS 11. Gotcha. Alain: Okay. IRS Aligned! Alain: Ugh. Still rainy as heck. After delving further into the pre-flight procedures, Alain begins to get rid of some of the warning annunciators. Alain: Yaw Dampers ON Dave: EECs ON Alain: The time for engine start has approached. Would you do the honours? Dave: Sure thang! Alain: Now who's being unprofessional... Dave: Engine 2 N2 Rising Alain: Okay. 18%. Flick the fuel flow switch. Dave: Engine 2 EGT Rising Alain: I'll handle number one. Alain: N2 18%. Alain: EGT1 Rising Dave: Engine start sucessful. Alain: Affirm. Now lets clear those hydraulic and pneumatic annunciators out of the way. Dave: Roger Alain: Right. They've gone. Radio tuning and CDU next. Dave: That's everything! Alain: Okay. I'll contact ground to see if they are ready for pushback. Just check EGTs and Fuel for me once more. Dave: EGT acceptable; fuel sufficient. Alain: Fabulous. Let us pushback whatnot. Dave: Pushback complete. Thanks Ground. Alain: Lets roll. Narsarsuaq Tower: ANA225, you are cleared to taxi reciprocal runway 25. Line up and hold after taxi. Dave: Copy, ANA225. Dave: Lining up and holding, runway 25. ANA225 Narsarsuaq Tower: Cleared for takeoff runway 25, ANA225 Dave: Cleared for takeoff 25, ANA225. Alain: Advancing throttles to full. Dave: EGT Rising, speed skyrocketing. Alain: ... ROTATE! Alain: Gear up, and shut-up. Dave: >.< Who told you that phrase? Alain: Be right back Dave. It's not often we get wingviews like these... Dave: I'm coming too! (In the cabin) Alain: Hiya Dave. Dave: Hey... Nice view Alain: Yeah, it's qu- WHO THE HELL IS PILOTING THE AIRCRAFT? Dave: Nobody Alain: GRAAHHAGAHGRR Alain became breathless after what was literally a sprint to the cockpit. Phew. At least she's okay... Checking the CDU... Another glance at the papers... Dave: Yeah, looks like a dark approach into Rekjavik. 'Sun's setting already. Sam: Turn the heating up. It's sooo cold I'm going to pop my jacket on. Dave: Why do we have an exit light? Beautiful sunset... Soaring over the Atlantic. Dave: Looks like we'll have to turn the lights on. Approaching the T/D: Dave: Okay Sam. Things are about to get busy. Sam: Aye! Sam: Wow. Quickest sunset I've ever seen! Getting lower... Dave: Watch it Sam. That ILS Loc & G/S will creep up on you. Sam: Yeah. Alot of things creep up on me GEAR DOWN Dave: Great job Sam. Bang on the ILS. Sam: Alas! Runway in sight! Inching closer... Sam: Full Flaps, approach speed 130 Knots Dave: Perfect, perfect... Flare her... TOUCHDOWN!!! Sam: Reversers off, let's turn next taxiway Rollout complete... Dave: Whoa. What a sky. Sam: Right. Lets park her here. Dave: Oh gosh! I almost forgot! Where's the baton after all that? Sam: I stowed it in one of the Cargo compartments. Dave: Ok. I'll assume ground will take it in a minute. Let's shut her down. Cold and Dark! Dave: What the heck is that? Sam: The IRS Display... How... Dave: Are yo usure there's no power? Sam: Affirm... No External either. Batteries are dead, APU is cut... Dave: It's flashing a message... <COCKPIT INTERCOM> THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING

rob16584 42
Excellent stuff Jack. After seeing all those wires I don't fancy having to pay your electricity bill!
mutley 4,498
Superb post Jack and the integration of your panels with the ATWC flight was truly unique. Not only an interesting flight but well illustrated too, it all seemed more real in your shots! I'm looking forward to the next part, don't forget that baton!! Cheers, Joe
Aircraft Aviation 2
Thanks everybody! I'm sorry if some of the pictures were a little blurred, but my (higher-res) Kodak ran out of battery and I had to wait 3 hours for it to charge, so I just switched to an odler model for the real-world shots. Not too bad I hope. @Rob: I think the overhead panel itself must eat up an extra £15 a year in electricity  . @Joe: Excellent point! Where did the baton go? :icon_yikes: . Thanks alot everyone else :001_th_smiles89: .
stu7708 244
Great stuff Jack, even if a few of the photos were very blurry. That sky over keflavik was stunning. Now, remind me. Who was Sam in all of this, and where did Alain go?? Hopefully it will all come clear in the next part.
needles 1,013
Hi Jack, I'm just back in the land of reality and my laptop and pc are now on the internet. Yippee. Briiliant 1st leg mate and well done with the real/sim world shots. Everything is looking great. Waiting for the Baton as I type this. Have a great Christmas and a happy New Year to you and your family. Kindest Regards Brian
Aircraft Aviation 2
Thanks Stu, Part 2 will clear things up. Hi Brian, I hope I don't leave you waiting for too long. I've been trying desperately to use the Airbus X for the next leg, but it is presently un-flyable for me (throttle issues, etc). If it isn't fixed in a few days it's back to the Simcheck A300 for me.
