Huey in action on two "islands"

Recommended Posts

I just got my hands on Aerosoft's new Bell 205 A-1/UH-1H, or more commonly known as the Huey.

First flight was made over the cold and snowy parts of northern Iceland over the Iceland X scenery.

And since I first and foremost consider the Huey a military helicopter I decided on a white livery for maximum camoflague effect :th_smiles73:

Leaving a small town at the shallow end of a sea bay.

Just cruising along checking out the scenery for my review.

Not much to see on the ground actually, but from what I gather that's fairly accurate for these parts of the world.

A very crisp and easy too read VC, but you'll need to turn on the instrument or dome lights.. it's dark in there...

The sun is almost setting already, and it's only just after noon local time.

Oh well, lets leave Iceland behind and move on to the other side of the world.

For this next set I want you to have Paint it black by The Rolling Stones running in the background to get in the right mood (I know, it has german markings, and I'm flying in Australia but a Huey over lush green lands just screams vietnam in my head. Must have seen "The Platoon" and "Good morning Vietnam" to many times).

Heading southeast from Bundaberg

Up close and personal..

And then just a few cruise shots at the comfortable altitude of 300 feet AGL

Now all I need to do is master the art of landing this thing with grace.. I got on the ground in one piece, but it wasn't pretty...

Good night, and sleep tight.

Thanks guys.

@Andrew: Well, I really only have the default choppers to compare with, and I haven't been flying those very much either, but it handles nicely in cruise as long as you keep your eyes on the instruments and horizon. But trying to reset your NAV1 or ADF is a hard task... found myself in rather steep turns and dives once I got my eyes back up again.. but I guess that's more of a chopper problem then related to the model itself... I guess that a 2D panel for the radios could have been helpful.

As for preformance it has no impact on frames on my machine as far as I can tell. Over Iceland X I had a steady 40 FPS (set as maximum in FSX), over FTX Australia SP3 the FPS was the same, but while on the ground at Bundaberg standing in close proximity to the animated people it dropped to about 20.
