mutley 4,498
Just published Read Joe's review on the interesting Icarusgold Grumman Duck J2F-2/4/5/6 "I think this will perform well on all machines, certainly I had no issues with lag or stutter when changing views. I am not a FPS junkie myself but I can tell when a product is performing well. Even in the pre-programmed flight situations she remained very fluid in action. Generally a fun little package with lots to do so long as realism is not high on your agenda."
allardjd 1,853
I was fortunate enough to see a real, restored one of these fly last week at Fantasy of Flight. What a hoot. It has a 1200 HP engine and cannot be ignored when the throttle is open. It put on a pretty good show for about fifteen minutes including one water landing and takeoff on a nearby lake and ending with a wheels down landing back at FoF. Very interesting AC. mutley 4,498
Nice review Joe I wasn't sure that it was possible to model dropping bombs in FSX Point taken You can in missions but not all developers consider this
ddavid 149
"Torpedos Löss, Herr Kapitan!!" A really comprehensive Review there, Boss - worth reading before buying, eh? Cheers - Dai.
mutley 4,498
Thanks Lads, Well I sent the review to the developers before publishing and they asked for 10 days to possibly improve the product but never came back with anything so my product appraisal, stays as is. allardjd 1,853
Probably a better package than most freeware, but every once in a while you find a real gem in the freeware. Even though I use TrackIR now, I'm still a little upset when I see a realease with no 2D cockpit. I'm sure it's just cost-cutting and avoiding code-bloat, but it's still my opinion that the 2D ought to be included across the board. John
mutley 4,498
Yes indeed, you try getting the MEBAR flight timer gauge working in a VC, it doesn't, it needs a 2d panel.
ddavid 149
Abso-bl**dy-lutely, mate! This trend towards VC only is for eye candy wallahs - some VC's are so complex that you can't see the instruments to fly with. I found this problem with the AH DC-3 and, I'm afraid it's going to get worse. O.K. - end of rant! Cheers - Dai.

allardjd 1,853
How? I haven't tried that in FSX Nor have I, to be truthful. It's a dead easy edit in the panel.cfg file in FS9. Isn't it the same in FSX? John
mutley 4,498
I don't know! What's the formula? Joe
allardjd 1,853
In panel.cfg... [Window Titles] Window00=Main Panel Window01=Radio Stack Window02=GPS Window03=Annunciator Window04=Compass Window05=Mini Panel Window06=JDA Gauge Test Panel // Added Window07=SALS // Added ...and... [Window07] BACKGROUND_COLOR=0,0,0 size_mm=140,160 position=0 visible=0 ident=210512 gauge00=SALSv9!SALSv9, 0, 0, 140, 160 This is for a different "gauge", but should work the same for the timer. The new window is on the Views menu under Instrument Panel and is resizable and relocatable if undocked - just slide it to the second monitor. The ident parameter can be most anything but should not duplicate the ident value for one of the other panels. You don't need to specify a panel bitmap file (there's none in this example) if you're happy to just have a "floating gauge". This is FS9, but I expect that the same would work in FSX. needles 1,013
Great review Joe. I'm not in the market to purchase anything at the moment but may just look at this again when I've been somewhere in May.:th_smiles73: Saving madly.:th_smiles73: :th_smiles73: Looks like a nice little craft and with the flights included is a great bonus methinks. I had better get on with my latest review too.:001_th_smiles89:

IcedUpPitotTube 0
A very good written review Joe. Was kind of surprised of the low grade though... I hope the developers don't take it too personally.

I hope the developers don't take it too personally. Well they did get a copy before publication and they suggested they would look at some of the issues but didn't come back with anything. If there are any improvements then I will be first to publish them and revise the review. Cheers, Joe
