Sabre 28
Just wondering if I'm missing something with this aircraft. (Excuse the laymans terminology) When I start a flight it seems as if the engine powers up as it would when you advance the throttle and yet the throttle is in the idle position. It seems odd and I don't recall it being like that originally (I may be wrong) I assume it's pilot error so no need to be gentle

Maybe something to do with the normal FSX aircrafts screen loading animation? then again, I could be wrong about that, but at leats you know its not just you that has this happening when useing add on aircraft Cheer's...Graham... Sabre 28
Once again I fear my own stupidity is getting in the way, however with that as a starting point I’ll ask anyway I’m trying to learn how to fly this aircraft realistically. I can do the auto start, throttle up and off we go bit, I can also fly around a bit and then stick it back on the ground (in a fashion). However I’m struggling to really understand the controls, what they all do, when switches etc should be on/off. I’ve printed and read the checklists but the aircraft doesn’t really seem to have a decent manual as such. I was looking for a guide (possibly with pictures) that basically says do this, flick that, when this happens do the other, etc. Such a thing does not appear to be provided, though I suspect I’m asking too much. Am I just not interpreting the checklists correctly? The cockpit layout diagram is ridiculously complicated with lines all over the place. From a beginners perspective I can’t say I’m overly impressed with the Carenado documentation, is this standard? Just wondered if a clearer guide exists or if someone could give me the basic start up procedures or do I just need to study the checklists more closely. I’ve even tried YouTube but can’t find much on there that helps. Honestly I don’t mind if it is just me just say so, I’ll just have to study harder, always was lazy at school (distant memory) Also is there a way to have the aircraft start engines off etc so you have to undertake a manual start. rob16584 42
You could always try an ambitious email to cessna? I'm in possession of an old A320 Pilot's Handbook that has all the checklists etc... in it from the late 90's. A friend gave it to me as he wrote to an airlines asking for one and 2 were sent to him. It might be a bit out of date but the procedures are fine for FSX
PanzerFodder 0
Also is there a way to have the aircraft start engines off etc so you have to undertake a manual start. Not quite sure what you mean by that little snippet, I thought that if all the sliders are place to maximum realism in the FSX controls bit, your plane always loads up in a cold and dark state??? . Regards to the manual, or lack of it! . Why not use your fraps recorder in the VC to record a cold dark start up (you should see all the switches and stuff clicking on and off) as the auto start goes through its start up procedure. (so that’s a Ctrl + E start ). Once you have all that recorded, you can watch the replay and identify all the things that need to be switched on or off!, you could also search the web to find out exactly what each device does, can’t help you any more than that ATM but I'm sure you will get to the bottom of it in the end . Well I've got everything in FSX on maximum realism and it always loads with engine running so I don't think that's it, unless there's something the aircraft settings I have to tweak? No mate I can do all that. I'm really just trying to work out if there is a setting/settings you can change so the aircraft starts in a cold dark state so I can practise the start up checklists etc. Thanks for the suggestions though I appreciate your input :001_th_smiles89:
mutley 4,495
Hi Graeme I set my 208 at Newcastle and switched every thing off and saved the flight. I zipped up the 3 flight files and attached to this post. If you unzip and place the files in your C:\Users\{YOUR NAME}\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files folder, start FSX and load the flight, you should be C&D ready to go! Cheers, Joe

Thanks again, off to test it, I'm sure I'll be back with more questions :icon_yikes:

I may have misread what your trying to say. But I think this could be the answer. Ian. Hi Ian - essentially what I was after was whether there is a setting or config or whatever that can be set so the aircraft starts in a cold dark state so I can practise going through the checklists. As a novice I don't find the Carenado checklists very good. It appears there isn't such a setting but I've now managed with a bit of guidance. The very unscientific way is just to switch everything off and restart but this just isn't realistic. The Uiver DC 2 manual I have is far more comprehensive with detailed instructions where as I find the Caravan manual sparse by comparison. Really it's about my quest to understand things rather than just do them, maybe I ask too much :icon_yikes: I'll get there it all takes time, thanks for your input though I appreciate it. :001_th_smiles89:
