One of Barnes Wallis's finest designs, sadly the British Government got into bed with the French and all the work on this was stopped in favour of Concorde. Could have been an interesting idea though. I'll let someone else name this particular bird though!  :D

It was an answer, a veiled one indicating I knew what it was, but one designed to give the others a go as Alan and I often have too much of the lion's share of correct guesses.  :P   :D

Alan and Andrew are hands-down the best at this. I did figure this one out, but didn't know it right off the bat. My "Grand Slam" comment is a left-handed reference to Barnes Wallis - the Grand Slam bomb being one of his inventions.

As soon as this appeared I knew exactly what it was, but like Andrew I left it for someone else to have a bite. Many years ago when I was about 10my dad was delivering tyres to BAC at Weybridge and as was often the case my Brother and I had gone out with him for the day in his truck. Whilst he was offloading we were taken into one of the offices for tea and biccies and there before us was a huge model of this aircraft. It was on a big metal display stand and must have been around 4 ft long. We had never seen anything like it, Bearing in mind that in 1970 most aircraft were either Boeings, Douglases, Comets or VC-10s and various propliners etc this thing was just something out of science fiction. It was a simply awesome looking aircraft that sadly never saw the light of day. I cannot be certain but I think this is the model we saw. However by that time it had a different display stand,
