allardjd 1,853
Yep, that's it. The "ball-point pen" nose, reaction control jet ports and broken rear skids are unmistakable. Good job. Your turn to post one. John
Ruzzo 59
It was built before 1914, 1908 to be exact. It shares it's first half of it's name with a bird which you may see in the winter.
dodgy-alan 1,587
Thats the Welsh built Robin Goch in the National Waterfront Museum, Cardiff.
Ruzzo 59
Yes, Well done Alan! - The Waterfront Museum is in Swansea, not Cardiff but that doesn't matter! Your turn!
dodgy-alan 1,587
Thanks Paul, I knew the Museum was in one of the two, couldn't remember which. Ok guys , have a look at this one. It should be fairly easy.
J G 927
Bristol Bombay?
brett 2,315
Bristol Bombay? I think the horizontal stabilizer is to high on the Bombay, this looks more like a Armstrong Whitworth type style.
allardjd 1,853
Quote Bristol Bombay? The Bombay is further forward - that's the tail section. John
brett 2,315
Har har
dodgy-alan 1,587
Not the Bombay or an Armstrong Whitworth guys, though you are in the right era.
dodgy-alan 1,587
No-one got it yet, Ok I'll give you a clue. Its NOT American.
brett 2,315
The closest I came so far is the Fiat BR.20, although it is still not quite right.
brett 2,315
I'll even throw in the Fairey Hendon since you said this should be fairly easy to figure out.
J G 927
You got it Brett, Fairey Hendon it is! Not American for sure, but used by the USAAF.
brett 2,315
I think so, we will have to wait on the Grand Puba to give it the nod.
dodgy-alan 1,587
It is indeed the Fairey Hendon guys. A comtemporary of the HP Heyford and the RAFs firs monoplane heavy bomber, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairey_Hendon Over to you Brett!
brett 2,315
Thanks Alan. This baby was fast, had the most comfortable cockpit in the house and like most decommissioned aircraft, ended up in a museum.
dodgy-alan 1,587
This one is not russian around anywhere these days, It was pretty swift in it's day though but a noisy old thing to have droning around you! Bit like an oversized wasp! The pilot certainly had to be well grounded to fly it! I'd imagine the training was pretty intense, the instructors must have been on a one for one basis tu make sure he could do the job!
brett 2,315
Should have known I couldn't get one past you Alan. You must have a memory like a camera.
dodgy-alan 1,587
LOL, I won't confirm the identity yet just to see if anyone else can get it!
allardjd 1,853
I know it, thanks to Alan's little dissertation of not too subtle clues. I'll just sit on my hands for a while. Lot's of other things going on to claim my attention just now. John
J G 927
I am stumped on this one, I know the manufacturer and therefore the nationality, but still cant place that odd looking tail!!
allardjd 1,853
Read Alan's clues again, more carefully, to get better grounded in your search criteria. John
J G 927
I have it now.... I don't want to drone on but a quick recce of this thing might put a pilot out of a job!
