hurricanemk1c 195
That looks to be one big aircraft!
dodgy-alan 1,587
That looks to be one big aircraft! LOL, the biggest aircraft you've never heard of! I know of a lot more oddities like this. I love obscure aircraft, and the late 40s and 50s produced some fantastic stuff!
brett 2,316
Way to keep us searching Alan. And again a big thanks to the hurricane for helping me along. Next up: Good luck and good skill
dodgy-alan 1,587
Oooh! Now therein lies a tail! Hmm thats a long oleo, poss carrier or carrier training maybe? either that or clearance for stores under the aircraft?
dodgy-alan 1,587
Would it be a Seversky P35 by any chance?
brett 2,316
No, but it does look similar and I can see why you choose that one. That is only a single and mine is a twin engine aircraft.
dodgy-alan 1,587
got it ! It's a Curtiss AT-9 twin engined advanced trainer. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=curtiss+at-9&hl=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=ERitUPLwJY2o0AXYxIGwCQ&sqi=2&ved=0CCgQsAQ&biw=1024&bih=
brett 2,316
Correct-a-mondo Alan. Good job. Groan, your turn again. The Curtiss AT-9 Fledgling (better known at the "Jeep") was designed as a "hot" multi-engine trainer to prepare pilots for the P-38, B-26 and A-26. Designed to be a handful, it was, both on the ground and in the air in single-engine operation. One pilot once quipped that it "took off at 120 mph, flew at 120 mph and landed at 120 mph!" dodgy-alan 1,587
LOL, this is getting silly Right, I'll find something a bit easier. Try this one, It should be a doddle !
allardjd 1,853
That Curtis AT-9 looks as if it was beaten out of a sold block of almuminum using only an ugly-stick. John
brett 2,316
That Curtis AT-9 looks as if it was beaten out of a sold block of almuminum using only an ugly-stick. John Haha, It looks like it needs to go on a diet.
allardjd 1,853
I guess that would have to be the Tarrant Tabor - I say "the" because only one was built and it crashed on it's first take-off attempt. John
brett 2,316
Beat me by 34 minutes John. Just found it and I knew I saw it once before while searching for another aircraft. Nice job.
