dodgy-alan 1,587
I'd say its name suggests it was not very well equipped for the long journeys it was designed for!
allardjd 1,853
Well, obviously it requires one engine for each of the main gear and one to haul around all the rest. John
allardjd 1,853
It looks like it might be the Spartan Cruiser. John EDIT: Probably the Cruiser III. JDA

brett 2,314
While we are waiting for John, would anyone like to tell me what aircraft (looks like a turboprop with folded wings) is in the bottom corner of Kieran's last pic. Page 64, Post 1273. Just wondering and can't see it to well. My eyes are getting worse, must be time for a visit to the eyetometrist.
hurricanemk1c 195
Northrop Grumman E-2 Hawkeye - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
brett 2,314
Thanks Kieran, it's so easy to see once you know the answer.
dodgy-alan 1,587
Not a Hawkeye, No Radome, that looks like a C2A Greyhound. seems to have a tail ramp as well.
brett 2,314
Hmmm...Maybe not so easy to see. That does look closer Alan and there is an image of the C2A closed up that resembles it. I even had to use a magnifier to check for the dome and couldn't see it, also the horizontal stabilizer is straight across on the C2A and V'ed on the E-2. What do you think Kieran, on first glance I see why you chose the E-2 but I think Alan might have pegged it. Thanks guys.........
hurricanemk1c 195
All my search was a quick glance at what I thought it would be - a proper look does reveal it to be a C-2A Greyhound. Same basic airframe I believe
dodgy-alan 1,587
Although broadly similar and using the same wings and tail, the C2A has a much deeper fuselage then the E2 making it more suitable for its trash hauler role.
Andrew Godden 943
VRC-40 is a Grumman C-2A 'Greyhound' equipped squadron with a detachment deployed on the USS George H. W. Bush (CVN-77) to provide logistics support. A recent upgrade has fitted the C-2A with the eight-bladed NP2000 scimitar propeller. So, with the rear loading ramp, my guess...Grumman C-2A 'Greyhound' Cheers Andrew
brett 2,314
Thanks Andrew, I guess the Grumman C-2A 'Greyhound' it is.

allardjd 1,853
The ladder is distinctive - if you're aware of it, this one should be a piece of cake.
dodgy-alan 1,587
Lockheed P-38 Lightning.
allardjd 1,853
Of course it is... The boarding ladder is a neat feature of the P-38. The ladder portion folds flush into a slot on the lower side of the fuselage and the handle, when stowed, is nearly flush with the top side. I didn't think this one would last long. Take it away, Alan. John Joh
