TedG 0
Just to tip Charlie over the edge and force him to open his wallet this is todays final flight in the 337. I had been flying an English&Welsh VFR tour put together by the FlyUK VA and this was the final leg of 35 that began and finished at Shoreham Airport (EGKA). I used to live in Hove...about 5 miles from EGKA and it is home to one of the best airshows ever...and used to walk my dog along the river Adur which is under the final approach for RWY20. Anyway this final leg had me leaving EGMD Lydd in the late afternoon for a planned dusk arrival into Shoreham. The South Downs are off in the distance as I make my way along the coast tracking the Seaford VOR A perfect afternoon for VFR flight and following a coastline and A259/A27 Showing off some much improved AA as I installed a new video card yesterday. Updating my old 430 GT to the ASUS GTX550 Ti Direct Cu has had a large impact already on my flight sims. Another view up front....gawd I love this plane. I have actually spent many hours flying in the rear as a technical observer back in 2003-2004 and was even allowed a ride in the right seat for one flight. The only GA airplane I have ever been in! Another view over the Channel Just passing Brighton and Hove (....actually lol) with Shoreham harbor and airport a little further along. I really miss living there...Lincolnshire is sort of pleasant but no comparison. I laugh every time I do flights around Shoreham as there is most definitely a bridge across the Adur for the A27! FSX is not quite right with the approach to Shoreham as it is really over the river so you have to watch out for the Downs and leave plenty of room on final for a safe approach. Clearing the downs leaves you a little high so make sure the airspeed is bled off in advance as you will have to dump a few hundred feet within 1 mile of the runway. And finishing parked up near the tower. If you get the chance go visit Shoreham. A lot of history and a great place to see some fabulous aircraft. Thanks for looking and apologies to Charlie who has no doubt dragged out his wallet by now **edit**as a side note having finished this tour I am starting the FlyUK PNW (more like western North America but whatever lol) VFR tour that starts around the Grand Canyon and after 6300nm and 60-something legs finishes in Wales Alaska. I plan to do all of it in the 337...although may take a couple of special legs in X-Plane so the Aviat Husky doesn't feel left out!
mutley 4,498
Hi Ted, This is an area I am quite familiar with as well. The airshow is one of my favourites and I hope to go again this year, A very nicely described post and great shots too! I must admit to using the UK2000 scenery version of EGKA so with Gen X it's more realistic. Cheers ... Joe
