Tim_A 997
As soon as FSX loads now, it crashes with this error: "This feature rquires that {smartassembly} is available on this computer." Bu**er Any ideas?
mutley 4,498
I get that on occasions with FSX never understood why but like Mike says a reboot clears everything out. Not sure why FX should crash on startup though, the installations should be autonomous.
mutley 4,498
Ah! I have seen this before, delete the (C:\Windows\System32) uiautomationcore.dll (after backing it up) and the same one in (C:\Windows\syswow64) More here http://answers.micro...42-146414087ec5
Tim_A 997
No Joy on the UIAutomationCore, or the various repairs, reboots, registry scrubs etc. Eventually got it working by doing a system restore. Had to go back 4 restore points though -- about a week, which was well before it stopped working. Amazingly X-Plane 10 still works, and that was installed after this restore point! Anyhow, thanks for the suggestions chaps.
mutley 4,498
So, do you have Prepar3d and FSX running now?
Tim_A 997
I have FSX running. That's all I really care about at this point.
needles 1,013
I'm wondering what I did, as I had no problems installing or running both FSX or P3D. It's surely a glitch. It will probably go pear shaped when I attempt to fly later today. Glad you got it sorted though Tim.
TedG 0
Amazingly X-Plane 10 still works, and that was installed after this restore point! This is probably down to zero registry entries made by XP....one of the more endearing aspects from a software perspective. And everything just stays there without writing to a zillion different locations within the OS file structure. I got that wierd {smart assembly} error when I was stupid enough to try that "FSX Booster" snake oil last year and it took a couple of hours poking about in the registry to clear that mess out of there. I vaguely remember reading something pertaining to {smart assembly} referencing proprietary code at the base level but as I was able to flush it down the digital toilet I did not chase it any further. d9 0
I installed GenX directly into P3D, which worked fine, then discovered it had vanished from FSX. I tried to reinstall but it insisted on going to P3D no matter what. I uninstalled P3D, then Treescapes insisted on going to P3D even though it was uninstalled. I've cleared out the Registry and got FSX working again, and installed P3D on the lappie, well away from anything else. Rob.
mutley 4,498
There's no reason to install the same scenery twice. I have just been linking my P3D scenery library to my existing FSX installation scenery files with the exception of FTX where I purchased the SBSL and installed a P3D version of FTX Central. britfrog 180
ever since fsx came on the market there have been loads of people apparently having problems with the later version of UIAutomationCore, some time ago i replaced my version with an older (vista) one at someones suggestion and dont really suffer any problems, only occasional ctd's when using orbyx with pmdg unless i turn down the sliders a bit before setting off, i have a desktop cpu monitor and i can always tell when a ctd is coming cus all the processors run up to 100% so i know that the system is overloading. However it is interesting to see that others are proposing the total removal of UIAutomationCore . As I am happy with things I think I will just leave my system alone however it would be nice to have a factual and precise answer to whether this file is necessary or not or what in fact it really does. My fsx prog gives a message that fsx has ceased to work and that it is looking for a solution each time i shut down fsx and whilst it is slightly annoying it doesnt stop me from either re-starting fsx or just using the p.c normally
M31 0
Looks like I'll be trying P3D 1.3 this weekend and I'm watching this thread with interest, don't want to lose my carefully tweaked FSX install either ... I'm guessing its best to install P3D on a separate drive from FSX ... right? some of my larger add-ons like Gen X scenery are on a separate Velociraptor HD from my FSX install on an SSD and it looks like I can just add these add-on scenery packs already installed in FSX to the scenery library in P3D without having to install them again into P3D ... I take it? I'd read that X-Plane 10 does not hook into the registry, neither does Rise of Flight ... I like that, wish more sims were like it, does not seem to have any drawbacks in functionality or performance in the case of RoF ... I might still pick up X-Plane 10 some day. EDIT: Just noticed this is a slightly older topic and these problems might not be relevant in 1.3 ... we'll see
ScruffyDuck 0
Latest version of P3D and FSX work fine together here. Win7 64bit
mutley 4,498
Same here, they seem to run fine "side by side" What I find funny is if you have FSX running and start up P3D it says "Another Lockheed Martin simulator application is already running"!
ScruffyDuck 0
What I find funny is if you have FSX running and start up P3D it says "Another Lockheed Martin simulator application is already running"! That may well be because the P3D and FSX executing processes look the same
