dgor 0
Hi all, As promised, here is my full flight which I just completed. I operated Air North flight 505 according to real world schedules, departing Whitehorse daily at 0800 and arriving at Vancouver at 1015. Sorry to post so many pictures. They're nothing special, primarily because I couldn't use Walk and Follow very much as it kept turning off all the lights. Oh well - a promise is a promise :-) . Enjoy! Our route for today. A total distance of 870nm, which will take us 2hrs10mins according to FSNavigator. Boarding begins at 0730. The flight attendants know many of the passengers personally and there is a nice atmosphere. Everyone was accounted for, so we could depart slightly early. We began making our way slowly towards 31R, with the de-icers on. Lining up and completing the final takeoff checks, ATC give us a wind of 8 knots. No problems during takeoff, and we rotate into the cold air. Climbing away, and about to make our first turn south. Weather's not as nice today as it had been yesterday, but it was no problem for the 732. The Yukon - one of the most beautiful, and yet hostile, places on Earth. Still climbing, with the area's impressive terrain being admired by the passengers. Just reaching our crusing altitude of 31,000ft. A short "bing-bong" comes over the PA system and the cabin crew begin to serve food and soft drinks. I'll let the next few shots speak for themselves. I love this area of Canada - the scenery, even from high altitudes, is breathtaking. The sky below us is getting cloudier, so not as much sightseeing to do now. Although we do get the occasional break. Cloud is starting to thin out now, but we're past the most spectacular of the scenery. Which really says something about the Yukon, because this is still amazing. Just about to hit our ToD mark now. We spool the engines back and use the trim to guide us down. Lower now, de-icers going on in preparation for the clouds. A clever spotter with a zoom lens catches us. Following ATC headings and have tuned the ILS for arrival on runway 8L. The red flags are telling us that the glideslope hasn't been captured yet. Not far now. The "bing bong" tells the flight attendants to secure the cabin for landing this time. Localiser and glideslope captured, cap'n. Just a matter of sighting the runway now. And there it is. In full landing config and gliding into Vancouver. Slowing down on 08L. It's a long runway but we braked quite hard to shorten the taxi. Taxiing in, the cabin crew disarming the doors. Welcome to Vancouver, and thank you for flying with Air North. Again, sorry to post so many. But it makes up for yesterday! Comments welcome. Dave
