Leg 75 -Addis (HAAB) to Kilimanjaro Intl (HTKJ)

Recommended Posts

Here we go!

I was going to use something a little more interesting, but on the day of the flight it had gone tech (i.e avsim wasnt working for me!)

So instead this bird was rolled out of the hangar, fresh from an overhaul.

The Ethiopian 767-300ER

I am guessing being the Capital, this is the main base of Ethiopian

fsscr004-11.jpg

A look at our dials as we start up-Look at the altitude

fsscr005-11.jpg

Ahhhh, a small mistake on the part of the controller here...

fsscr006-11.jpg

A tug was called and all was sorted...now we have to backtrack the whole length of the runway!

fsscr007-10.jpg

Turned round and powering up! We're going to need most of the runway at this altitude

fsscr008-10.jpg

Eeeek that was a late takeoff..but we ARE up!

fsscr009-7.jpg

Climbing out

fsscr010-8.jpg

Leaving behind Ethiopia

fsscr011-9.jpg

A nice lake as our in-flight entertainment starts

fsscr012-9.jpg

A good look along this flying tube of metal

fsscr013-6.jpg

It's flying like a dream after the overhaul!

fsscr014-8.jpg

Another lake! Something i didn't know about his part of Africa

fsscr015-7.jpg

Don't know how to describe this picture really...i'll leave you to decide

fsscr016-5.jpg

lake Turcana :?: at the beginning of the Great Rift Valley

fsscr017-9.jpg

The Great Rift Valley is interesting because it was formed when two plates slid apar....Oh sorry did i make you fall asleep!

fsscr018-6.jpg

Back to the flying, and taking a look at the FMC and the flight progress

fsscr019-6.jpg

Bing "ladies and gentlemen, we have just crossed the Equator and are now in the Southern Hemisphere!"

fsscr020-11.png

Time for my costomary edited shot!

fsscr022-6.jpg

We are nearing Top of Descent now...

fsscr026-6.jpg

There infront of us, the highest mountain in Africa

fsscr028-7.jpg

Turning and descending as we past the peak (actually i think it has five separate peaks...!)

fsscr029-4.jpg

Final preparations now

fsscr030-4.jpg

Being vectored in by 'approach'

fsscr031-2.jpg

 Very foggy!!!

fsscr032-8.jpg

Slowed right up and trying our best to catch a glimpse of runway

fsscr033-5.jpg

There it is!!!

fsscr034-3.jpg

Kilimanjaro Intl's only regular spotter catches us as we pass the airport boundary

fsscr035-5.jpg

I wonder how this one was taken...

fsscr036-5.jpg

Off the runway and safely in Tanzania

fsscr037-3.jpg

making the (short) taxi to our stand

fsscr038-6.jpg

Parking next to the home airline here

fsscr039-2.jpg

Shut down, doors open, but no steps to greet us yet...they will arrive soooooon!

fsscr040-4.jpg

thanks for viewing, i declare this leg complete!

clapping.gif Phil,

I know I have said this before so it must be true  your posts are truly some of the best of the challenge, I really enjoyed it!

Ahhhh, a small mistake on the part of the controller here...
I think you will find that is the crazed Greek (Sorry Panos  ) that John encountered on a previous leg.

Thanks for getting the atwc_baton.png safely to Kilimanjaro.

Martyn should be there soon to receive the baton and fly it to me!

Cheers

Phil,

Good one. Glad you got us a view of the mountain. That was the object of having that stop on the route.

Great plane, great flight.

Were those people in the cockpit edited? Should I recognize them? The pilot might be a much younger

Ringo Starr. I don't believe Sharon is type rated for the 767, so surely that can't be her in the right seat...

or can it?

John

Truly breathtaking shots Phil. Can't go wrong with a LDS 767! I have to admit I would have been in a right state flying something that big out of such a high airport. Obviously it is possible though. The "There it is!" shot is absolutely amazing. Well done! :-)

Cheers,

Dave

P.S.> Nice one Joe! :welcomeani: Made me laugh!! lol . It could be a crazy Aegean Airlines pilot. THese pilots are indeed crazy!

But this doesn't mean that Olympic Airlines pilots are crazy!!!
