Recommended Posts

no matter how i try I cannot post pics on the site whether it be a BMP, PCD, JPG , JPeg each time it comes up and say this type of ending is not permitted to be uploaded, it is p--- me off no end.

"you are not allowed to use that image extension on this community" is the exact phrase

There's no way to host your images directly on this site, you have to upload them to a separate host and post them through a link.

There's plenty of free image-hosts out there. I used imageshack.us before I set my own domain up for it.

A few other free hosting sites, along with instructions on how to post your shots in the forum can be found here.

well. I should add that you can apply for an image gallery via the Gallery tab, but I think that Joe have a limit on the number of images you can upload there.

As far as I've understood it's a necessary limitation to reduce both storage space and bandwith on the server host, thus keeping the running cost for the forum as low as possible.

That's odd..

Using the "image" icon (small square with something that looks like a tree in it, position 11 in the row of icons that start with the Bold icon) in the editor doesn't upload anything to this server, so I can't see why it should block anything... it just inserts a link in the code that displays the image... I hope Joe can provide some more info on this matter...

hi despite my PM being several sentences long when i ask it to send it comes up with the message that a pm must be more than 2 charactors long, so much for that idea!

also if i try to cut and paste a url into a pm it will not go across, however if i cut and paste a url into the picture box in the chat room it will paste it however it says that files of that ending are not accepted

dont you just love pootas?

Just a thought - you kno' me - finkin' aht-side the bocks...

Cheers - Dai.

Dai,

I seem to remember that they had gone out of fashion by the time the Lightning had arrived, but I did have a reasonable one a few years earlier:-

it seems quite hit and miss sometime i can copy and paste other times no, still at least I can get around it

https://picasaweb.go...708547873798274

There's your problem..

The url isn't direct to the image, but rather to a webpage dispaying the image among other things.

Right-clicking on the image and chosing properties in your link gave me the URL below for the image itself..

https://lh4.googleus...M/s800/comp.jpg

And inserting that using the Image button does this..

comp.jpg

I'm not familiar with picasa, but the direct link to the image might also be available under the "share" function in the top left corner (envelope icon)...

Thanks Micke,

I had just replied to a mail from Nigel with the same info, I should have looked here first!

There is an option on the image link function "Image only (no link)" that the one that produces the file link rather than the page link.

Cheers,

Joe
