petermcleland 48
Here are a few highlights of my continuing tour:- Approaching Wrangell On final. I could not get fuel at this location but a managed to fill up when I was on the runway! This nearby anchorage is where I made the video "Reflections". Here is another nearby anchorage... The map tends to lead you onto this hardstanding... ...Where I got out to stretch my legs... ...and take the odd photo. Away again and heading for Ketchikan. Ketchikan and a small top up of fuel. Ketchican the town and port. Ketchican Marina. The Ketchikan SPB is marked here. The map shows an intrigueing SPB just marked with a 2 and I have... ...moved there for this shot and the next two shots. This is also where I... ...made the paddling video. My next port of call is the SPB here at... ...Metlakatia. Here I am just leaving on my wheels and entering the sea... To taxy out for room to take off into wind. Taking off now past the little town and... ...climbing away. Here is an anchorage nearby called Tamgass. The main runway at Annette Island, has a bad crosswind today, so I am landing on this one which is into wind Parked up for the night...This is as far East as I can get in Alaska so tomorrow I am heading back, via any ports that I have missed, to Yakutat. From there I will head off to the West exploring Alaska. Thanks for looking

petermcleland 48
Thanks Joe and Brett, Yes, I am enjoying the adventure and the map reading with my iPad...It takes me back to my fighter pilot days when the map on the lap was all we had. The Icon is like that and is only designed for VFR navigation. What a difference it is to have the iPad map to scroll with a finger as opposed to a paper strip map folded concertina style on your lap.

petermcleland 48
On our way again... ...towards... ...a Seaplane Base... ...called... ...Hollis. Where I found a nice beach... ...to park on. Away again now with a crosswind take-off on route to... ...Hydaburg SPB and... ...another nice beach. Hydaburg. Hydaburg. Hydaburg. This next SPB is called "Waterfall"... ...for obvious reasons. Waterfall. Waterfall. Taking off again now with another crosswind as I head for... ...an SPB called "Craig". Craig. Craig. I've moved on now to another beach at another SPB called "Klawock". And here I have just taken off from that SPB straight onto finals for the little airport of the same name. Klawock. Away again and bound for "Steamboat Bay" SPB. Steamboat Bay. Steamboat Bay, parked on the beach. Another beach at another SPB called "Port Alice". and another at "Naukatibay" Naukatibay. And the last SPB for today called "Meyers Chuck". Desperate for fuel now I am heading for the nearest airport that stocks it. Low fuel...Ketchikan is dead ahead but will I reach it? The airport VASIs are in sight ahead...Being a Seaplane, I could always land on the water and hope for a tow in. On finals now and sure to make it so I've put the gear down. Well it was a bit tight. But I'm fuelled up now. I'll leave her here till tomorrow. Thanks for looking

petermcleland 48
Thanks Hurricane...Here are some more from today:- Continuing... On our way again, to call in at Port Walter, on the way to Sitka. Here is Port Walter and I'm positioning to land into wind and not have far to taxy in. Well that went wrong as I finished landing crosswind! Well I parked on the beach at the exact position on the map and walked up into the trees. I got a bit disorientated up there and it took me a while to find my aeroplane! Taking off into wind this time... ...and setting course to cut through this landmass at... ...Port Lucy... ...It runs almost right through to the other side. Just a small bit in the middle to... ...hop over. I have never visited these before, but they cropped up on the map so... ...Here is the high and steep sided one with a small crater. And here is the lower and bigger crater... ...big enough to fly... ... round inside. There is my destination for today, Sitka. I'll run over the harbour to see how detailed it is. Plenty of ships and small boats... ...very impressive really. The stiff crosswind weather cocked me off the side of the runway, in spite of my efforts, so I taxied in over the grass. There are those Volcanoes. I will leave it here for the night and then explore any nearby SPBs tomorrow. Thanks for looking
