UKJim 502
Hi Guys, I know that there are a few of you that don't just stick to one sim but play many - so for that I have just purchased ETS2 that was released tonight Check it out; I am looking forward to playing it as soon as this dowload completes hehe Cheers Jim
brett 2,316
Just checked out the demo. No need for the update as the demo provided the latest version. I only had a joystick for a controller which made it a bit tough to control steering and acceleration and I kept trying to use the twist grip(rudder) to steer instead. I have a throttle on my controller but it did not recognize it. Would be nice to try and figure out how to make both work in the setup. After a few hours of driving pleasure I ended up with four accidents, two moving violations, two wrong turns, a ferry ride and four jobs completed. The first wrong turn had me making some long routes to come back around to where I started and the GPS did reload and get me back on track. The second wrong turn I made I just made an illegal u turn at the first large intersection I came to which was fun to do. Didn't hear any horn honking so that was a little unrealistic. Being a prior resident of New York it was something I would have expected. My driving also made the folks behind me very nervous about passing but once they did they would cut me off as in the RW. I have driven trucks from time to time over the years and one thing that always bothered me was that the turn signal does not shut of automatically like it does in a car. Same thing here in the sim world. Backing up to the loading docks was a treat. Driving on the left side of the road was a challenge in itself and I was not familiar with some of the signage. One of my accidents was flipping the truck onto it's side, think I must have caught the tail end on a guardrail. I did cause some sort of traffic jam and could not make the turn into the delivery area on my first job due to cars blocking the entrance. The program is pretty cool with plenty of views to choose from with a handy GPS route finder to help guide your way. I also got emails from banks wishing me to borrow money and from companies wishing to hire my rig, if I had one to drive. The user needs to work as a for fee driver until money can be saved to purchase their own truck. I must admit that it was kinda fun and it had me driving till two in the morning but I still prefer flying to being stuck in traffic. If I could find a cheap wheeled controller I might even consider purchasing their product as it was interesting driving the streets of places I have never been before. Thanks for the heads up Jim. It was a pleasant diversion.
UKJim 502
To be fair its nice playing but the scenery is not necessarily 'real' so there may be some landmarks but its far from accurate and 'good' - I like it because it has custmisable trucks and as you level up and earn money your can buy upgrades and stuff. I prefer the flight sims too but this helps break the day up a little. Here are a few screens of my current truck The last one being my most recent - the trailer is a very corrosive substance hehe - I used some of my levelling up skill points for the extra corrosive qualifications
brett 2,316
Looks good Jim. Very sporty with the rally stripes. I like it. I got my controller working correctly so that's a plus for me. I did some more driving and it's not as easy as I thought. Some tight streets and turns make for a real challenge. I figured the scenery wasn't perfect but still some good sights and I keep my eyes on the road anyway most of the time. I have gone thru tollbooths, ferry's and even some kind of train type ferry so pretty cool stuff in there. Love the rain storms and the drops look real good on the windshield. Traffic sucks in London and some of the other cities but the country is nice. I couldn't figure out how I kept getting speeding tickets until I finally spotted the speed camera signs. Bummer. Haven't gotten caught leaving the scene of an accident yet, oops x4 , so that a good thing. Not as exciting as flying but still enjoyable. I was dissapointed when I reached my profile demo limit so I think they got me.
UKJim 502
yeah it is quite challenging in places but most of the time its a straight driving game with some dumb AI cars As you say its not as good as flying but it requires no brain power so a good game to chill out to. I ahve been collecting the dangerous substance skills and the trailers I get are pretty cool. Ive not hit any toll booths yet but have gone on a few ships - no train tho either - guess I need to try some different jobs.
UKJim 502
Oh I almost forgot - have you got Scania Truck Simulator too? That one is great; I actually prefer it because it has missions and skillful driving is needed - I am sure some of the missions are impossible using only the internal camera's though Might just be my poor driving though hehe
brett 2,316
This is my first truck Sim, everything else was PlayStation. I was fooling around with this again tonight and bought a truck on a loan. First load out some numb nuts pulled a left turn in front of me while I was doing 50, no chance of stopping and 9 grand in repairs. Before getting my own truck I was just doing quick jobs so I was all over the place got to see lots of sights. It is good for mindless fun. Tired of stop lights though and need to get back into the wild blue yonder. Right now I'm just driving to make the bucks so I can afford my weekend flights and plane rental fees, he-he Hobbies are expensive.

brett 2,316
It is a little addicting. I just got back from a trip to New York(two and a half hours), got home tired, started sim driving for another two hours. What's wrong with me. Between Air Hauler loans and this new truck loan I always seem to be in debt. No different from real life. Think it would make a nice Xmas present so I can drive myself out of the hole I put myself in.
UKJim 502
Yeah I am hooked at the minute - this is a few more screens - sorry this will be the end of screens here because its a flight forum not trucks lol Truck so far... brett 2,316
Nice looking Pic's, painted my Majestic the same color. The traffic is the worst when its crowded and your in the cities with many, many traffic lights, I have been cut off, cars have stopped in front of me and then do not move, they won't let you in when it's bumper to bumper and you need to enter the road. Starting to feel like a work day in New York. I'll end the thread too out of respect for the big dog and premise behind his site. Thanks again for the heads up Jim.
