petermcleland 48
I continued my tour in this ORBX scenery yesterday and here are a set of pictures:- Departure from Auckland Harbour, lining up for take-off. On the step and... ...unstick. Turning onto course. That is the Kotanga Bridge on my left. I'm going to map read up the coast using an old road map that I used years ago. The headlands and coastlines should be pretty easy to recognise. And I shall probably engage the autopilot when I get to 1500 feet and engage the altitude and heading locks... Those lights in the distance are at Auckland International Airport...I knew it as Jean Batten Airport. I think this is Whangaparaoa. That biggish island in the distance might be Kawau Island. This might be near Warkworth. That town may well be Warkworth and... ...that island with the bay in it, is definitely Kawau. Approaching some... ...more hilly... ...terrain now and... ...I reckon my 1500 feet altitude lock may be just enough. Clear of all that now and approaching... Bream Head. There is a very nice marina down there and not far from Whangarei. I can see my goal dead ahead in the distance...That headland on the horizon is Whangaruru Head. Those islands on my right are the Poor Knights. Touching down now just past Admirals Bay... ...and slowing down to stop at... ...my destination, Purini Bay. I have spent some time here in the past. Here is the overhead view of my anchorage...The little town at bottom left is Oakura. I will spend a few days here and then go on to Russell and the Bay of Islands. Thanks for looking
mutley 4,498
It's super scenery Peter, have you Checked out Tim Arnot's review yet? There are a few flight plans you can try. Joe
mutley 4,498
*headslap* Whoops, you will not have seen it as it is not published until Saturday. Sorry, Joe
petermcleland 48
That's OK Joe...I'm just flying using a map and want to visit many of the places I have been to on the ground, so airfields and flight plans don't feature much. I visited NZ either 7 or 8 times, both North and South Islands and also Stewart Island, so I have plenty of scope but I think the vast majority of landings will be on the water
mutley 4,498
Lovely, it's one of the places I would really love to visit in real life. I'm looking forward to more of your adventures!
brett 2,315
Thanks for the tour Peter Beautiful scenery and a nice relaxing flight up the coast. Impressed you know how to spell Whangaparaoa and the others.

Quickmarch 488
Thanks for that, Peter. Fabulous software. Favour to ask: If you're in the BOI area, please take a photo pass over the Opua Marina. It's at the head of the bay (or end of the river, depending on your outlook), just past Russell as you come in from the ocean. There's a tiny town with a ferry crossing and a large(ish) marina where my wife and I spent the 2010/2011Cyclone season. I'd be really interested in the representation by the ORBX software. We returned to NZ for the 2011/2012 season, but spent the summer in Auckland. The opening shot in your tour is a very recognisable Auckland Ferry Terminal. Beautiful work. Cheers, March

March, There are about three shots in my earlier post called "Final Choice..." which show the Ferry Terminal more completely. Yes, I will look for the Opua Marina in BOI and will get a screenshot of it. Thanks Gents for your kind comments
