rob16584 42
To explore the new scenery from Orbx I've decided to go on a tour of Wales to see what it has to offer. The first leg was from Cardiff to Swansea.... The Beaver was waiting at Cardiff and will be perfect for this leg Tower has given me clearance to depart, with a left turn after take-off out over the water Turning out towards the bay Flying back over the airport, BA Maintenance Hangar below The first waypoint is the Millennium Stadium After which I make a left turn towards the Taff Ely Wind Farm After the wind farm it's a short leg to Junction 36 of the M4, then head directly to Swansea; 19nm from here accoring to the DME On downwind this LearJet forced his way in, better to fly past him and left him land as he's probably travelling twice as fast Careful not to get too low, don't want to use this propeller as a makeshift tree-chopper Just about to touch down at Swansea. I've turned off shadows so it looks a bit odd! The local zombie makes use of the big hairdryer Thanks for viewing. In total there will be 13 flights; when I've completed them all I'll upload the flightplans as a package for download
britfrog 180
Funnily enough it was the release of ftx wales that made me do a vfr flight all around wales with generation X yesterday, I have to say I am impressed with gen x .
rob16584 42
Leg 2 is a short 20 minute hop from Swansea to Pembrey... Leaving Swansea behind, a nice little airport Keeping nice a low, only 1,000ft for this flight Flight plan is simple; out across the bay, follow the coastline until the NDB points 90 degrees right and then land Lining up for final, taking care to avoid the trees Not sure what's going on here! This seems a busy little airfield
ddavid 149
I see the car got there before you, Rob! Looks Good - not quite Gen-X, but we knew that. Did you see the Worm's Head? Cheers - Dai.
hurricanemk1c 195
Aha - I think I can see where Cardiff Canton depot should be. No real sign of Central though - and the Valley Line looks to be diverging off the wrong side. Still, nice shots so far Rob!
Jess-b 420
Pembrey is part airport, part Motorsport venue. Nice shots though Rob, but anyone whose been to Swansea airport would never discribe it as 'nice' lol
mutley 4,498
Enjoying this little jaunt Rob!
brett 2,315
Enjoyed the short hop Rob. I like that runway threshold in the last shots. What an airport, it looks like it even doubles as the town drag strip complete with grandstand.
stu7708 244
Looks great Rob.. Got both Wales and England installed, but havn't had time to do any flying over it apart from the MEBAR registration flight.. Looking forward to seeing more..
rosariomanzo 545
This scenery looks gorgeous. Great shots.
rob16584 42
The next leg is from Pembrey to Haverfordwest, another short flight with a few detours... Taxing out was a bit of a squeeze Clearance received so let's get out of here Hope I make it before the sun sets Very green around these parts, but it looks nice First reference point is a disused airfield Flying over Pembroke.. ...A little too low maybe After reaching Angle I turned back towards my destination, which is just visible in the top left Bringing her in to land I'm off for a drink whilst the zombies tie my girl down for the night
mutley 4,498
Very believable shots Rob, some of the best night shots I have seen!
petermcleland 48
Very nice shots and brought back a few memories...I was stationed at Pembrey briefly from Jan to Jun 1957...In those days it was called No. 233 O.C.U. and we had Vampire 5s and Hunter F1s...I was the Wing Weapons Officer and flew both types...Happy Days! rob16584 42
The next leg was a short 50nm hop from Haverfordwest to Aberporth Looks like it will be a calm flight Ground textures maybe a touch too colourful for this time of year Turning away from the airfield to follow the coastline First waypoint reached, time to turn north Destination about 20nm ahead, but it looks like the clouds are moving in Runway in sight (just). Should be able to get down before the visibility drops even further Doesn't look so bad down on the ground. Now where's my dinner?
ddavid 149
Rob, please put me out of my misery! Can you say what the Lat/Lon of screenshots 3, 4 and 5 are? Very colourful fields - was this 'Summer" I guess the yellow fields are silage after cutting... But Thanks for sharing, Mate! Cheers - Dai.
rob16584 42
Email sent Dai. The next leg is the longest so far at about 100nm from Aberporth, uptowards Aberystwyth, across to Welshpool and finally and landing at Shawbury... Up, up and away. Cloud cover has more or less gone so the cruise height is going to be 7,500ft More colourful fields So much for the weather report, at least the scenery is nice This is more how I imagine Wales to be Decending down to pattern altitude around Shawbury Runway picked out, not long to go It seems to take a while to get anywhere in the Beaver when in landing configuration Deffinately a military presence here
dodgy-alan 1,587
Looks like you're having fun, watch out for the low flying areas and stay well away from the Mach loop near Machynleth (excuse my spelling), that is unless you want a close encounter with a Hawk, Typhoon, Tornado etc(insert favourite plane here_________) http://www.targeta.co.uk/index.htm
rob16584 42
The next leg takes me back to the west coast as I fly from Shawbury to Caernarfon Nice and calm at Shawbury, it seems Wales has escaped some of the snow Bit of a crosswind to contend with on take-off Visibility wasn't great for the trip, but I could still see the ground The view from the cockpit was great Radio mast in sight, time to turn towards Caernarfon Winds are favouring a runway 20 landing, so I'll fly downwind over Caernarfon itself Until I reach the castle and then turn back towards the airport I think in reality this lot would be white today Whoops, almost a little too low It looks nice, but is quite a bit different from the real world aircraft (which looks like a hunter http://goo.gl/WGt3S)
brett 2,315
Glad it cleared up enough for the flight. Watch those sightseeing landings.
rob16584 42
After a couple of days rest at Caernarfon it was time to jump back into the cockpit and head towards Valley AB. The route was simple, straight out departure and keep the coastline on the left. After about 50nm I would be lined up for runway 14 at Valley.... Lovely backdrop as I go through pre-flight Calm waters below. Cruise altitude was only 1,500ft Passing over Beaumaris. I think there should be some sort of castle around here And a video too Might be an idea to avoid those wind farms And here i'm rounding Hollyhead. I've been on holiday a few times to this part of the world and sailed out of the harbour for a day trip to Ireland This was the holiday park that I stayed at Before long it was time to land again
rob16584 42
The second flight of the day was a short hop from Valley to Llanbedr. It should only take about 30mins Looks like that United CRJ (?) has lost it's wheels Passing Caernarfon Watch that mast! Got to make sure I keep enough space between me and the ground, should the engine fail About to start my downwind leg into Llanbedr Turning to finals, a pleasant flight
rob16584 42
Rattling through these today, it's amazing how much flying you can get done with the house to yourself! Next up is a flight from Llanbedr to Sleap As long as those clouds stay at that height we'll be OK going over the mountains Very green, maybe a touch too green Love these wing views on the Beaver Descending down for final approach A change in wind direction meant I had to abort the planned landing on Rwy 18 and come back around for Rwy 36 Looks like rain
M31 0
Great shots Rob, only started reading from page two before going back to page one of this topic but guessed it was Orbx, have decided to keep my FSX install to VFR GenX for UK scenery and use any UK Orbx scenery I buy for P3D assuming they provide installers for it, but I'll wait until the inevitable Orbx Scotland comes out and see if they offer discounts for the rest of their UK stuff. brett 2,315
"Looks like rain" Oh oh, time to find a pub shelter. Nice shots Rob. Note: A little extra green never hurts anyone.
rob16584 42
The weather wasn't great today so I've only managed one short flight from Sleap to Welshpool.... Snow...in March? Although it's not settling yet It seems that the worst of the shower is out that way....where i'm headed Beginning to sette now Have these farmers got under-soil heating? Only waypoint for this trip. Now time to head straight to the Welshpool NDB Nicely camouflaged Almost there Time to land...
