To explore the new scenery from Orbx I've decided to go on a tour of Wales to see what it has to offer. The first leg was from Cardiff to Swansea....

The Beaver was waiting at Cardiff and will be perfect for this leg

ScreenHunter_01Mar101337.jpg

Tower has given me clearance to depart, with a left turn after take-off out over the water

ScreenHunter_02Mar101344.jpg

Turning out towards the bay

ScreenHunter_04Mar101345.jpg

Flying back over the airport, BA Maintenance Hangar below

ScreenHunter_05Mar101347.jpg

The first waypoint is the Millennium Stadium

ScreenHunter_06Mar101351.jpg

After which I make a left turn towards the Taff Ely Wind Farm

ScreenHunter_08Mar101358.jpg

After the wind farm it's a short leg to Junction 36 of the M4, then head directly to Swansea; 19nm from here accoring to the DME

ScreenHunter_10Mar101400.jpg

On downwind this LearJet forced his way in, better to fly past him and left him land as he's probably travelling twice as fast

ScreenHunter_13Mar101413.jpg

Careful not to get too low, don't want to use this propeller as a makeshift tree-chopper

ScreenHunter_15Mar101419.jpg

Just about to touch down at Swansea. I've turned off shadows so it looks a bit odd!

ScreenHunter_16Mar101421.jpg

The local zombie makes use of the big hairdryer

ScreenHunter_17Mar101424.jpg

Thanks for viewing. In total there will be 13 flights; when I've completed them all I'll upload the flightplans as a package for download

Leg 2 is a short 20 minute hop from Swansea to Pembrey...

Leaving Swansea behind, a nice little airport

ScreenHunter_18Mar101510.jpg

Keeping nice a low, only 1,000ft for this flight

ScreenHunter_20Mar101516.jpg

Flight plan is simple; out across the bay, follow the coastline until the NDB points 90 degrees right and then land

ScreenHunter_21Mar101518.jpg

Lining up for final, taking care to avoid the trees

ScreenHunter_23Mar101523.jpg

Not sure what's going on here!

ScreenHunter_24Mar101524.jpg

This seems a busy little airfield

Enjoyed the short hop Rob. :thum:  I like that runway threshold in the last shots. What an airport, it looks like it even doubles as the town drag strip complete with grandstand. :D

Looks great Rob..

Got both Wales and England installed, but havn't had time to do any flying over it apart from the MEBAR registration flight..

Looking forward to seeing more..

The next leg is from Pembrey to Haverfordwest, another short flight with a few detours...

Taxing out was a bit of a squeeze

ScreenHunter_02Mar141829.jpg

Clearance received so let's get out of here

ScreenHunter_03Mar141830.jpg

Hope I make it before the sun sets

ScreenHunter_05Mar141833.jpg

Very green around these parts, but it looks nice

ScreenHunter_08Mar141842.jpg

First reference point is a disused airfield

ScreenHunter_09Mar141845.jpg

Flying over Pembroke..

ScreenHunter_10Mar141849.jpg

...A little too low maybe

ScreenHunter_11Mar141850.jpg

After reaching Angle I turned back towards my destination, which is just visible in the top left

ScreenHunter_12Mar141854.jpg

Bringing her in to land

ScreenHunter_13Mar141902.jpg

I'm off for a drink whilst the zombies tie my girl down for the night

Very nice shots and brought back a few memories...I was stationed at Pembrey briefly from Jan to Jun 1957...In those days it was called No. 233 O.C.U. and we had Vampire 5s and Hunter F1s...I was the Wing Weapons Officer and flew both types...Happy Days! :)

The next leg was a short 50nm hop from Haverfordwest to Aberporth

Looks like it will be a calm flight

ScreenHunter_01Mar161057.jpg

Ground textures maybe a touch too colourful for this time of year

ScreenHunter_02Mar161101.jpg

Turning away from the airfield to follow the coastline

ScreenHunter_03Mar161101.jpg

First waypoint reached, time to turn north

ScreenHunter_04Mar161109.jpg

Destination about 20nm ahead, but it looks like the clouds are moving in

ScreenHunter_05Mar161116.jpg

Runway in sight (just). Should be able to get down before the visibility drops even further

ScreenHunter_09Mar161130.jpg

Doesn't look so bad down on the ground. Now where's my dinner?

Rob, please put me out of my misery! Can you say what the Lat/Lon of screenshots 3, 4 and 5 are?

Very colourful fields - was this 'Summer" I guess the yellow fields are silage after cutting...

But Thanks for sharing, Mate!

Cheers - Dai.

Email sent Dai.

The next leg is the longest so far at about 100nm from Aberporth, uptowards Aberystwyth, across to Welshpool and finally and landing at Shawbury...

Up, up and away. Cloud cover has more or less gone so the cruise height is going to be 7,500ft

ScreenHunter_11Mar161349.jpg

More colourful fields

ScreenHunter_13Mar161351.jpg

So much for the weather report, at least the scenery is nice

ScreenHunter_15Mar161410.jpg

This is more how I imagine Wales to be

ScreenHunter_16Mar161423.jpg

Decending down to pattern altitude around Shawbury

ScreenHunter_17Mar161451.jpg

Runway picked out, not long to go

ScreenHunter_18Mar161457.jpg

It seems to take a while to get anywhere in the Beaver when in landing configuration

ScreenHunter_19Mar161502.jpg

Deffinately a military presence here

Looks like you're having fun, watch out for the low flying areas and stay well away from the Mach loop near Machynleth (excuse my spelling), that is unless you want a close encounter with a Hawk, Typhoon, Tornado etc(insert favourite plane here_________)

The next leg takes me back to the west coast as I fly from Shawbury to Caernarfon

Nice and calm at Shawbury, it seems Wales has escaped some of the snow

ScreenHunter_01Mar221652.jpg

Bit of a crosswind to contend with on take-off

ScreenHunter_02Mar221656.jpg

Visibility wasn't great for the trip, but I could still see the ground

ScreenHunter_05Mar221838.jpg

The view from the cockpit was great

ScreenHunter_06Mar221838.jpg

Radio mast in sight, time to turn towards Caernarfon

ScreenHunter_09Mar221902.jpg

Winds are favouring a runway 20 landing, so I'll fly downwind over Caernarfon itself

ScreenHunter_10Mar221904.jpg

Until I reach the castle and then turn back towards the airport

ScreenHunter_11Mar221906.jpg

I think in reality this lot would be white today

ScreenHunter_12Mar221909.jpg

Whoops, almost a little too low

ScreenHunter_14Mar221911.jpg

It looks nice, but is quite a bit different from the real world aircraft (which looks like a hunter http://goo.gl/WGt3S)

After a couple of days rest at Caernarfon it was time to jump back into the cockpit and head towards Valley AB. The route was simple, straight out departure and keep the coastline on the left. After about 50nm I would be lined up for runway 14 at Valley....

Lovely backdrop as I go through pre-flight

ScreenHunter_01Mar261136.jpg

Calm waters below. Cruise altitude was only 1,500ft

ScreenHunter_02Mar261140.jpg

Passing over Beaumaris. I think there should be some sort of castle around here

ScreenHunter_03Mar261144.jpg

And a video too

Might be an idea to avoid those wind farms

ScreenHunter_04Mar261152.jpg

And here i'm rounding Hollyhead. I've been on holiday a few times to this part of the world and sailed out of the harbour for a day trip to Ireland

This was the holiday park that I stayed at

ScreenHunter_08Mar261207.jpg

Before long it was time to land again

The second flight of the day was a short hop from Valley to Llanbedr. It should only take about 30mins

Looks like that United CRJ (?) has lost it's wheels

ScreenHunter_09Mar261317.jpg

Passing Caernarfon

ScreenHunter_11Mar261332.jpg

Watch that mast!

ScreenHunter_12Mar261337.jpg

Got to make sure I keep enough space between me and the ground, should the engine fail

ScreenHunter_13Mar261338.jpg

About to start my downwind leg into Llanbedr

ScreenHunter_14Mar261343.jpg

Turning to finals, a pleasant flight

ScreenHunter_16Mar261347.jpg

Rattling through these today, it's amazing how much flying you can get done with the house to yourself!

Next up is a flight from Llanbedr to Sleap

As long as those clouds stay at that height we'll be OK going over the mountains

ScreenHunter_17Mar261413.jpg

Very green, maybe a touch too green

ScreenHunter_19Mar261433.jpg

Love these wing views on the Beaver

ScreenHunter_20Mar261433.jpg

Descending down for final approach

ScreenHunter_21Mar261441.jpg

A change in wind direction meant I had to abort the planned landing on Rwy 18 and come back around for Rwy 36

ScreenHunter_22Mar261441.jpg

Looks like rain

Great shots Rob, only started reading from page two before going back to page one of this topic but guessed it was Orbx, have decided to keep my FSX install to VFR GenX for UK scenery and use any UK Orbx scenery I buy for P3D assuming they provide installers for it, but I'll wait until the inevitable Orbx Scotland comes out and see if they offer discounts for the rest of their UK stuff.

The weather wasn't great today so I've only managed one short flight from Sleap to Welshpool....

Snow...in March?

ScreenHunter_01Mar271206.jpg

Although it's not settling yet

ScreenHunter_02Mar271209.jpg

It seems that the worst of the shower is out that way....where i'm headed

ScreenHunter_03Mar271210.jpg

Beginning to sette now

ScreenHunter_04Mar271211.jpg

Have these farmers got under-soil heating?

ScreenHunter_05Mar271215.jpg

Only waypoint for this trip. Now time to head straight to the Welshpool NDB

ScreenHunter_06Mar271218.jpg

Nicely camouflaged

ScreenHunter_07Mar271224.jpg

Almost there

ScreenHunter_17Mar261413.jpg

Time to land...
