EGHI This morning

I was in the area so I thought I would pop in and see what's going on.

All the following shots are from behind a mesh fence which my autofocus wasn't too keen on. This was around 10 am most of the morning arrivals and departures had taken place :wow:

Is that a replica up on that pylon? Hopefully the prototype, if it still exists, is more carefully preserved?

I like the "prop". Nice piece of art giving the impression of motion. Very cool photos.

*Droooooooolssss*

Thats one nice camera!

I stick to my k800i phone camera, with a measly 3.2Mpix...

Oh, that spitfire reminded me of a fairly local round-a-bout!

Full life size replica of the beauty!

(I dont mean to steal the limelight by the way!)

Hi John,

It is a scaled replica I would say about a third of the size, a fitting tribute

As for the prototype..

As a footnote, on 4th September 1939, the day after war broke out, the original prototype crash landed due to a misjudgement on the part of the pilot, Flt Lt 'Spinner' White. Sadly he was killed and K5054 never flew again.

Taken for here! http://www.mutleyshangar.com/features/s ... anni70.htm

They are now planning this tribute over 100ft high! http://www.shhas.co.uk/SHHAS%20MISC/shh ... AC_010.pdf

Cheers

Its in Thornaby (in Teesside, North East), a small town about 5-10 miles from where i live.

It was an airfield during WWII i believe, and this was put there in remembrance for the airfield since it was decommissioned after the war.

There is nothing left of the airfield, so the council put this on one of the roundabouts!

Only been there about 6 months, and still looks as good, no vandalism luckily!

And the fence is essential, since the local yobs would most probably smash the glass and have a drunken play flight

Every time my dad drive round there he almost crashes every time, gazing at the spitfire! :wow:

Not a great article, but still!

Chris.

The current generation, which im part of :blush , is just vastly YOB!

As for me..i should pop down Gloucestershire (EGBJ) as they have a Gloster Javellin (Spelling?) on display.

Although the next time i get down there might be for all the inbounds for the Cheltenham Festival..in March
