Quickmarch 488
I posted the first photo, last night as the Beaver was clearing the Coastal Mountains, just east of Vancouver. I'll repeat that photo here and add a few more of this trip. One of the great advantages of flight simulation is the ability to leave your plane at 14,000 feet, go to bed, get up and do a day's work, then start up and finish your flight. That's what I did with this one. The fun part was the restart. FSX restated the engine on reloading the saved flight, complete with all the round-engine smoke and fuss. The Beaver is new in my hangar and I went looking for a longish flight to test the fuel figures for the airplane. This Aerosoft Beaver advertises a 450 NM range on 95 USG. So I flew the tanks dry. The rear (25 gal) gives out fairly quickly, especially on the long, slow haul up to FL140. I was debating a fuel stop at CYWL (Williams Lake) so I shut down and saved the flight last night about 40 NM short of the YWL VOR. CYCD to CYDQ is flight planned at 451 NM. Tonight, calculator in hand, I re-started and decided to continue the flight to it's destination. As it was; the Beaver, fully leaned out at 14,000 did pretty good. I landed with 6 USG in the front tank and 2 and 2 in the rear and mid tanks. So a bit of a cushion - about 47 NM at cruise, so it qualifies as 10% of the flight distance and is comfortable enough for me. Here's the screenshots: Going through 10 for 14. Then the descent in to CYDQ, just as the sun is going down. And, finally a well-deserved rest in front of the pumps, waiting for the line boy to turn up for work tomorrow morning. For those who may be interested, here is the Flight Plan Good night!
mutley 4,498
Wow, there's nothing like squeezing out the last drop. You did very well March!
brett 2,315
Nice flight plan to test out the fuel accuracy. It's a rugged and beautiful area and the Aerosoft Beaver is perfect for it. Thanks for doing the testing for me.
hurricanemk1c 195
Nice shots John - and well done for not running out of fuel!
Quickmarch 488
It's quite satisfying to have all the numbers line up. I had planned a midway stop in case the fuel usage was not as advertised. However, wx reports were favourable and I was well ahead of the planned fuel profile at the halfway mark, so - carry on. That Beaver does quite well at higher altitudes and being as I was (really) sitting at SL, I used no oxy for the entire trip. I just love those big round engines. Next up: RealEngine_v14. Reading the instructions tonight.
