Why pay loads of dosh for a new cpu?
Bruce (a.k.a. brian747) replied to britfrog's topic in Hardware
I have to admit that I haven't heard of anyone *ever* achieving a serious overclock with the stock cooler.....(Well, not for more than a few minutes, anyway, just before meltdown set in). Remember Sir Humphrey Appleby in "Yes, Prime Minister"? I think he would have described that as "interesting", or (even more damning) "brave". Cheers, Brian -
Electronic Flight Bag For FSX

> Maybe it had something to do w/ memory, I had been opening and close FS over and over while trying out different panels. Hmm, this isn't the old uiautomationcore.dll problem again? Repeated use of menus is the trigger for that one..... It might be worth checking whether you have it installed, though — just in case! Cheers, Brian -
Hi James! Oh dear: you're feeding my addiction, of course, by even discussing this. But hey — I'm addicted anyway..... > So what hubs are you planning and is your 777 going to be "Brian's Air Charters"? Ah, that's an interesting question, my friend — and one which has been occupying my thoughts during my few saner moments. Having spent longer than I had intended getting EGLF equipped with the BC base to go with my brace of 737-700s (both equipped with the Short Field package),it theoretically ought to be the hub of my operations. BUT of course, in view of the fact th

@britfrog: That's very nice indeed! Congratulations. Like Kevin, I was wondering about the cooling.....? Cheers, Brian -
That looks better than I've ever seen it, James! Thank you. It's probably just as well I'd missed this post until now, though. Sheesh, we've got the scenery (better than ever before) — I just wish PMDG would hurry up with the 777! <chews carpet again> Cheers, Brian

Professional Flight Planner X is (finally) released! The Aerosoft announcement can be found here (buy directly from their online store): the flightsimsoft pricing (and bundles) can be found here. (You may have to keep trying the flightsimsoft link, since it's getting heavily hammered as I write this, but the Aerosoft link seems to be weathering the storm....). Discounts..... As I understand it, two categories of people are entitled to a discount — but you have to be careful to buy from the correct online store. Existing TOPCAT customers need to buy directly from flig

NOTAM Pmdg 777 moves a step closer to release.
Bruce (a.k.a. brian747) replied to Jess-b's topic in News and Press Releases
Hmm, just found this (not on Avsim, obviously) but originating from Randazzo, slightly earlier today: Captains- Welcome to release week for the PMDG 777-200LR/F! We are in the process of tamping down some final details and cleaning up documentation and license text, all with an eye toward delivering the finest 777 simulation you have ever flown. I want to give you a quick primer on what to expect during the week ahead, and also provide some firm warnings on on what NOT to expect- just so that we can keep everyone singing from the same sheet of music, as it were. Here are th -
NOTAM Pmdg 777 moves a step closer to release.

> ...will you be changing your name tag to Brian777? <*cough*> Well I have to admit that I already own brian747 and brian737 on my emails, so brian777 seems like a logical extension..... I used to be indecisive, but these days I'm not sure...... Cheers, Brian -
<grin> Seemingly so..... AND YET.... PMDG have been known to do setup operations well in advance of the actual launch itself. "It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings", and so far it's still a bit quiet..... > ...you'll be wanting my photo-scenery then want you? Er, well, the jury's still out on that one, too. But I do like Overclockers' bundles, it's true..... Cheers, Brian

Just (1910 hrs, BST) tried to get onto Avsim and got this message: We have taken AVSIM off line temporarily to perform system modifications to allow faster response during the forthcoming release of the PMDG T7. Please be patient. We do not expect to be off line for more than two hours. If something happens to extend that period, we will post an update which you can view here. Hmm..... Cheers, Brian

> "They are a fact of life...." But are they (and should they be)? (Assuming that you haven't pushed all the sliders all the way to the right, of course). I ask these questions because in my experience many people have had good results from applying all four of these simple suggestions, so maybe it might be worth spending a few moments in checking that you have them all implemented? •Are you sure you have HIGHMEMFIX=1 in the [GRAPHICS] section of your fsx.cfg? •Are you sure you have the Vista version of uiautomationcore.dll copied into your fsx directory (but not registered

Yebbut — think about flying a Majestic Q400 in Flybe livery in and out of there...... (Been on there as pax loadsa times IRL, so gotta try it). That combo could even get me to finally buy the Q400! Cheers, Brian

Many thanks, guys! Had to take her to the hospital again this morning (Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend, d'uh), so I guess she's not taking the p***...... But hopefully the stuff they gave her will start to work soon! Either that or she'll start to grow a second head, I reckon. All the best, Brian -
Hi, John! > "I believe you must be flying PMDG or other heavy-duty aircraft that probably have their own database of navaids..." Exactly that, my friend (hence my comments about "... probably it's because I never fly VFR...." and "...as long as the aircraft you are flying is up to date with everything else that you use..."). I do deeply sympathise with the problem you face (that situation would seriously drive me crazy). My deep regrets that I couldn't suggest anything helpful. Cheers, Brian

You'll also need to have the SDK around if you might do any tweaking with ADE, incidentally. Good luck with the rebuild, guys! (Something I dread....). Cheers, Brian

Hi, John! > "...as often as not when trying to replicate the routing from a RW source I will run into an intersection or a VOR or an airway or an ILS that doesn't show its face in FSX." Maybe I've just been lucky, or probably it's because I never fly VFR, but.... I keep all my add-ons (PMDG, FSC, Avliasoft, etc — and, I strongly suspect, Majestic Q400 one day ) all at the same (Navigraph) AIRAC number (I don't update very often, but I do take care to keep them all consistent when I do) and I have never had any such problem. And I plan all my flights extremely carefully,

I've just remembered why I stick to jets! Mind you, if I was ever tempted to try those spinny-roundy things, I think it would have to be with Majestic's Dash-8 Q400. I've just finished reading Jane Whittaker's review of it in the current PC Pilot: I hadn't realised that (unlike fsx) it takes advantage of multi-core processors — the guys at Majestic are obviously very serious about what they do. Cheers, Brian
