Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to everyone — it's great to visit the lighter side of simming, now and again. Cheers, Brian -
@jaydor Very nice livery indeed! > I am only playing with the textures and creating a livery for just me.. So you have no competition from me as I am under cutting Ryanscare Ah, thank you. <grin> It sounds like a great idea to me. I do something similar, except that I call it my own charter company, which gives me an excuse to fly anywhere I want (but who needs excuses?). It's all about having fun. Cheers, Brian

Er...... Bit worried about the idea of using someone else's entire fsx.cfg? Apart from all the license information in the Trusted section, there's things like "[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti.1]" and so on which may not be appropriate for the recipient. Mind you, I've never tried it. So it's just my 2¢...... Cheers, Brian

SSD is *the* way to go when it comes to booting Windoze and loading FSX. Shame it can't improve framerates as well (only CPU speed can do that), but I guess we have to settle for what we can get. Cheers, Brian

<*cough*> Yeah, something humungous like that. <gulp> It always struck me as curious that even something as simple as a nut and bolt has one price for the rest of the world, and also a very much higher price if it's to be fitted into an aircraft. Yet Jepp and others have never been interested in doing a simplified (or, in the nicest sense, outdated) version to help enthusiasts like us in the simming community. Sad. Hey ho. Cheers, Brian

Nice flight, Philip! Cheers, Brian

@Remington Box > .....my musings are USA-centric... that's the only place I have flown.... Perfectly understood, my friend: having lived and worked for a while in your great country I understand where you're coming from. But as a long-term inmate of England please forgive me for my initial slight puzzlement. (I know that Jepp is world-wide, I'm just frustrated that I can't afford it). Thank God that as simmers we can all understand each other! Cheers, Brian P.S. The ice cream is great, too, but next time you're in Italy, do give theirs a try.

@Remington Box Absolutely — an EFB isn't a planning tool, hence my agreement with Kasper in the post prior to yours. Interesting observations, too, although perhaps a little USA-centric for those of us on this side of the Pond and those who don't have I-devices or a Jeppview subscription? (I stand guilty as charged, on all counts). > "...you said the MSA doesn't matter for IFR flying?" Er. shome mishtake, surely? I think you must have misunderstood my comment. EFB doesn't (because it doesn't have the information) generate an MSA circle on its charts. As an IFR-on

I agree, Kasper. However (although this is slightly O.T.) having seen the AoA videos of PFPX in action (which uses current navigational data from Navigraph or Aerosoft and works in conjunction with TOPCAT) I am hopeful that it will prove to be the nearest approach yet. OrbX potentially to stop UK airfield development
Bruce (a.k.a. brian747) replied to Kevin Firth's topic in General
Hi Mikael! Indeed I had missed that announcement! Thank you — I will very much look forward to it. Many thanks, Brian -
I never thought of trying to use EFB as a total flight planner (i.e. in terms of working out the waypoints and airways from departure to destination) — in fact, I don't think it was ever meant to work like that. In the words of its creator, "EFB provides all necessary flight information available 'right at your fingertips' in digital format", which is exactly what it does, so IMHO I don't believe it can in any way legitimately be compared with FSCommander or FSBuild. For me, it works brilliantly once I have already got my overall route and am looking for the best SID (and STAR, for short route

OrbX potentially to stop UK airfield development
Bruce (a.k.a. brian747) replied to Kevin Firth's topic in General
I guess you're referring to post #66 on this page: http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/60409-uk-airports/page-4 TBH, I'm relieved that John has recognised that "...$32.95 grass strips covering 20km sq is not a sweet spot for you guys". I'm as pro-Orbx as the next man, so I was concerned that they might catch a financial cold by continuing to go down that road (which obviously, from his comments, would have been the case had they continued). But I'm also a little sad that by the sound of it that also means that we won't now see as many UK airports from Orbx as some of us had hoped. (Have -

Having flown to and from EGHI many times IRL, I've been looking forward to Orbx making good their promise on this one. Such a pleasant change from all those grass strips, too. Cheers, Brian -
OrbX potentially to stop UK airfield development
Bruce (a.k.a. brian747) replied to Kevin Firth's topic in General
Agreed: nothing personal, but distinct disappointment nonetheless. Sadly, I have to agree with many of the opinions voiced above. Speaking as a non-GA flyer, my concern with Orbx has always been their seemingly overwhelming fixation with grass strips. There are many interesting medium-sized airports in the UK that have no adequate representation in fsx (one thinks immediately of Southampton, Prestwick, Farnborough, and others, all of which would obviously have a wider potential customer base) yet they insist on rolling out more and more GA-only airports which limit their appeal (or, in my -

Many thanks, guys! @Brett ? ...there is never enough time to enjoy our hobby. <sigh> You said it! I genuinely thought it was going to be different after retirement — but the Domestic Controller had obviously been laying her plans for some time...... All part of life's rich tapestry, I guess....... Cheers, Brian -

Hi folks! Just joined, and still finding my way around, so this is actually my second post <*cough*>, sorry about that..... I've been simming since the original Bruce Artwick wireframe package on the Apple ][ in 1979, and then via every single iteration of the Micro$oft franchise up to fsx, where I've stuck (mostly because I've now invested so much in add-ons that the thought of moving on scares me. And until EFB runs with Prepar3D that's not an option, either). I was in the RAF for a while (not flying, apart from as much cockpit jumpseat time as I could grab), including
