  1. I've been flying the heck out of the Super Cub as well as my newest plane, the Ultra-Micro Mustang by Parkzone. It's a lot of fun and flies in a really small area quite well. As a plane that weighs just over an ounce, it can be a handful to fly in the wind, but it's GREAT training for the Jug! As for the Super Cub, I got bored with the stock paint so I turned it into a WWII L-4. I'm still missing the insignia on the empennage and some markings on the vertical stab, but those will be done this week.   3. I had to fire a pilot for the first time yesterday. I couldn't afford the damage he was putting on the plane, and his stats were decreasing! He went from 73% to 63%!
  4. Much has happened in the past few weeks. First of all, I flew the final flight of the last C U206G (N106SE) from KFMN to KEMT. The plane was sold having served Sonora Cargo Express well. The 206's were nice, but for an extra $4,000, it is possible to buy a C185F that carries nearly twice the cargo. It's sort of a no-brainer. The SCE fleet now consists of nine C185F's. The following photo is of our oldest C185F, with over 252 hours on the airframe. The newest C185F, by comparison, has nearly 57 hours.   5. What a great looking plane!!! Also, I wish my scenery was so nice. I can't find any good USA stuff that I've felt compelled to buy yet (since I fly almost exclusively in the South West US.
  6. We got into Australia late in the morning and rushed out to Lavarack, Queensland, Australia which was a grassy dirt field and part of a very small military base. The Aussies were very friendly to this former Marine, and they wanted me to share a beer with 'em before I took off. I had to remind them that I was about to fly an airplane, and they looked at me as if I was crazy to turn down a beer.   8. Congrats! My fleet is almost entirely 185F's due to their amazing low price, amazing high cargo capacity, and amazingly low fuel consumption. My star/senior pilot Kenny is flying a C208B while my friend Stevie is flying the Kodak. I was flying sloppy and was banging the Kodiak and the cargo around, so I went back to the Bravo for now. Reaching a new level of planes is always exciting. I'm looking forward to the multi-engine planes we're about to get into.   9. I got the Jug! I ended up ordering the retracts from Horizon as they were half-price from what the local hobby shop was charging for them. Prices at the shop are normally pretty awesome (equal to the best prices I can find online for most things) but for whatever reason, the retracts are very expensive there. Anyway, they should be here next week for me to put in. I also found out I had the wrong servos, so I got a pair that will be used for the flaps. My wife actually supported me getting the plane, so it makes me extra happy. She said she'd paint nose art on it for me (she's an amazing artis
  10. I did before, but not this time. I took the plane up knowing it had a defect in the wing, only I thought it would hold. I was wrong, and now it's in the garage broken. As for the Jug, I am getting one either later today or tomorrow. I have the servos for the flaps already, and I will probably pick up the retracts when I get the plane. I have a DX6i waiting to bind to it.

  12. ...and that P-51 is no more! I took it out and it took off and climbed well, but when I turned it and brought it around, the wing flexed and it went into a spin and destroyed itself. Oh well; it was a Frankenplane anyway (old wings, new fuse, recycled gear inside). I'm getting a new plane tomorrow; can't decide on whether I should get the Wildcat or the Thunderbolt. Decisions, decisions.
  13. Thanks! I've been re-learning a lot about R/C flying, and found that when flying electric, the prop effects the wattage of the plane more than anything else. The draw on the battery is determined by a mix of the motor and the prop, and changing the prop just one pitch can add or decrease battery life significantly. I am about to go to a different prop on the Super Cub that should give more power and better battery life. It's amazing you can get both from one prop over the "stock" prop.
  14. Many changes. The Quest Kodiak, former flagship of the SCE Fleet (in its SoCal Express livery). Fist big change: a new name. To reflect our growing presence in the South-West US, we changed our name from SoCal Express to Sonora Cargo Express. This allows us to keep our FAA abbreviation (SCE) and also reflects our flying area better (through the Chihuahua, Sonora, and Mojave deserts). We now have additional bases in Texas and New Mexico, and have a larger fleet of C185F's and more pilots. Same plane, new livery (and new name!).   15. Along with getting back to sim flying, I was finally able to pull some of the planes off the wall in the garage and work on getting them ready to fly again. It's been five years since I flew these planes, so there was a lot to look over. There was some corrosion I had to clean, and the battery technology has surpassed my planes (and my batteries all no longer hold a charge) so I had to pick up some LiPo batteries yesterday and then put new connectors on the planes.   16. I can't believe I just found out about this show! I've been watching Flying Wild Alaska, but Ice Pilots NWT is AMAZING!!! I love the fact that they're flying old WWII aircraft, and keeping them not only in flying condition, but using them to generate revenue in some of the harshest conditions known! I just got done downloading Season 1 (we don't get it in the US that I know of) and after watching the first two episodes of Season 2, I'm hooked! I wish this came to us in the US; I'd love to watch it in HD. The planes are GORGEOUS!!!

  19. I was finally convinced by Ramona and my business advisor Lawrence to sell two planes and replace them with one larger plane. Their arguments were valid; why hold onto planes not being flown? Since I don't want to hire more pilots at this point, that left three planes without pilots. I figured they were assets; my accountants knew better. "Replace them with larger planes; reduce the fleet, but increase the earning potential." They were right. I sold N100SE, our first aircraft (C172) and N102SE (Mooney Bravo) and bought in its place our third C185F, N108SE. This brings our fleet size down by on
