You guys must have incredible systems... I get horrible frame rates with FSX, yet I can get in the 40's or more in FS9 with everything turned all the way up. One day I'll take a look at some of the FSX tweaking guides.

Very nice! Which add-ons are used in these shots?

I think it could be the real weather that did me in. I think the headwind became stronger as I flew, because my ground speed decreased quite a bit as well. Gotta love real weather!

This is less about screen captures and more about what happened, but since there are two screenies, I posted it in this forum. My apologies if this is not correct. Today, I decided to take a nice, long flight from Palomar to San Jose, California outside of San Francisco in the SlikAir B1900C N190SA. It's a nice flight along the coast, usually above some inversion layer clouds, but beautiful ocean or coastal cliffs and hills pop through the clouds here and there. About half-way to San Juan, I decided to check my fuel burn and found that I was going through more of it than I had planned for.

Yes, that's the one. I spoke with an old Air Force pilot once who was telling me about what he called the "heyday of fun" when any pilot could check out aircraft for an hour or two of fun. He flew into San Antonio one day and saw an Aircobra on the tarmac. He asked if he could take it out for a spin (since he hadn't ever seen or flown one before) and the line guys said, "Sure, just make sure to take a look at the 'blue book' on it." He said he sat in, looked at the pertinent info on the operating speeds and limitations, and then took it out. He said it was okay, but he loved the door and the f

Very nice job! I like it!

What stunning screen caps! It looks like a lot of work went into making this as incredible as it is. I'd love to see scenery this detailed for my neck of the woods, but I'm sure that's not going to be forthcoming anytime soon  I swear, I can see Tom Jones' birthplace and I thought I saw Jem walking on a boulevard in one of the shots!!!

Nice screen caps! I'm a fan of the 737's, and you've done a great job with capturing a great looking bird.

Very neat!!! I "worked" 10 airshows in my 12 years in the Marines, all at MCAS El Toro. Until the base closed, it was the largest air show in the US. I was an MP, so we had to do traffic control and crowd control. As I rose through the ranks over the years, I got to see different parts of the "operations" of making the airshow happen (including being in charge of a beer tent one year!) up until my last three years as a Staff Sergeant when I was in charge of traffic control. Talk about stress!!! I miss the airshow environment... it was a lot of fun! The last time I pulled my pistol on someone

Here is an example of some stuff I did at KCRQ (Palomar-McClellan) in Southern California. The objects I added are highlighted in red below: ...and the objects in the distance magnified a bit: I don't take too much of a hit in frame rates, but obviously, the more liberal you are with placing objects all over the place, the more your frame rate will suffer. Here's another view of the area to the left of the plane, only closer and from another angle: Why are there trucks, cargo containers, etc at the hangar behind the plane in the bottom picture? Because that's where SlikAir Cargo

Nice job! I do lots of livery work myself... although, mostly for this little-known airline called "SlikAir."

Wow... those are some great shots!!! I wish we could get so close here in Houston to the flightline...

Thanks for this info, John!!! :mrhappy: Now I will adjust my BGL's and scenery to reflect the change. Can't have wrong numbers painted on the runways at Port-au-Prince now, can we?

I'm eagerly awaiting JF's next version of AP/CP. As many have read here, I've been flying a lot of FSPassengers lately after having gotten into CP. I can honestly say I enjoy both, and both have strengths/weaknesses, but I think that CP has the potential to be the stand-out now that the genre is maturing. The suggestions thread on the CP forums is a great start. I sincerely hope that the next version will be more robust and concentrate a little more on the management side of things. There's not much that can be done to improve the flight experience other than to give us a "reason" to fly. The

Last night, it was getting late and I was pretty tired, yet I decided that I should fly home the last leg of my "milk run." I also made a critical decision that effected the rest of the entire flight, and could have doomed us. I decided to not use my checklists. In my degraded state of mind, the last thing I should have done (besides fly) was to forego the checklists, but I guess I was so tired, it sounded like a good idea at the time. First mistake: leaving the props set to taxi. I was rolling on the runway and wondering why we weren't gaining enough speed. The end of the runway was coming

I use a startup situation that is cold and dark. I just save my default setup whenever I shut down for the night and the next time I come to FS, my plane is right there where I left it, cold and dark. Using the default setup will work with any plane you select. The situation dictates the startup status of the planes.

My video card (Nvidia 7800) has two outputs, so I use them both. Works much better than I expected it to! In FS9, it's incredibly smooth and beautiful, while FSX is a bit more taxing on my system.

Interesting. I find the exact opposite to be true, but that's from my own perspective. Having only 70+ hours in Cessna 150's, 152's, and 172's, I guess for me, the VC seems more real than the canned views that magnify and have odd angles to them (especially the forward view which looks down too much). I like to be able to "crane my neck" about when in turns (sucg as when turning from base to final). The instruments in my VC's (all payware) are quite nice at the high resolution I fly at, and not at all "Crayola." Also, lighting is pretty decent, and the panels are incredibly useful. I sometime

FSPassengers 2004
ehunyadi replied to ehunyadi's topic in Flight Simulator X (FSX) / FSX Steam Edition
John: you can use any aircraft you have in FS with a few twists. You can use "economic mode" in which you have to purchase your aircraft with the funds you have available, or you can turn off economic mode to fly any aircraft in your library. Also, you can fly with either career mode on or off. Career mode forces you to earn your ratings. The good news is that you can get into turbo props pretty quickly (22 hours for single engine, 35 for multi-engine) or you can fly with career mode off (which is what I started with, since I wanted to fly with 1900C's from the beginning). As for flying carg -
Neat program! I got it installed and running today and just took a short hop from KCRQ (Palomar) to KLGB (Long Beach) and used RC V4. It was pretty neat! I asked for my analysis, and I was rated "Excellent" which made me smile.

Yes, you can open other bgl libraries, but if it's not the one you're in, you can't use the objects. I think there's a setting in FS to make a local bgl a global one. If I can do that, I can use the other objects in the other libraries.

hehe... well, more correctly, 40" of desktop/viewable area. I use two 20.3" monitors next to each other. It's quite stunning, and the area in the middle of the view screen is less a bother after one gets used to it.
