Which train sim?

Recommended Posts

Hi Joe,

I have rail simulator http://www.justtrains.net/product.asp?pid=277 supposedly the best on the market at the moment. I used it once then uninstalled it, nothing wrong with the program :mrhappy: :bored::cool: just need more action and things to control, perhaps I missed the point but it was accelerate, decelerate, stop. accelerate, decelerate, stop. accelerate, decelerate, stop. .. you get the idea.

Graphics were good, perhaps I need to look at it again.

Cheers

I do indeed have one, or two even...

I have MS Train Sim, which is great, up to a point. Its dated, and it shows. With TS2 on the way, its not really worth it.

Kuju's Rail sim is indeed the 'one to have' at the moment. Im yet to get it, but i have had the chance to ply with it, and i like it. If you dont mind that stop start factor of train simming, then Rail Sim is the one to go with, especially as its graphics are on par with any thing (and i mean anything, games sims etc) currently on the market.

But, at the moment my sim of choice is BVE 4. Origianlly Boso View Express, its now been renamed BVE Trainsim, and depsite no external view, its briilliant. There are quite a few good routes around too, my personal favorates being the northern line and birmingham X-City south.

But the best bit?

Its Free!

I highly reccoment a flight (or ride in this case) over to the following websites...

BVE Download Website - http://mackoy.cool.ne.jp/ *

TrainSimCenteral - http://www.trainsimcentral.co.uk/

RailSimRoutes - http://www.railsimroutes.co.uk/

* - Get version 4. Less routes avalable, but a better sim.

On the subject of that kast website...its been in development since 2004, but when it finally arrives, look at what it could look like...

B.T.W. any ideas on how to move the Snowdon Mountain Railway train - it's always stationary just north of the summit......

Cheers - Dai. :mrhappy:

What mode were you driving in? Try putting it on Advanced!

There's an official "Upgrade Mk1" update out now for the UK/European version of Rail Simulator which fixes a long list of issues - ones I'm glad to see are the 2D map now follows the train if you click on the train icon, and you no longer get derailed on manual points that you forgot to set.

Worth downloading the update if you've got Rail Simulator!

My brother just got the Kuju Rail Sim for his birthday (from me) and on first impressions i am very impressed-graphics are a huge leap up from MSTS. Also I love the new camera as it offers much more freedom. Don't know what the 'gameplay' is like yet as i haven't had a chance on it myself but if first impressoins were everything, i would recommend it.

If you just use it in the Simple control mode and do a simple station to station scenario it might feel like there's not a lot of gameplay at all (not to say those scenarios aren't enjoyable/interesting/challenging though). It's when you put it to Intermediate or Advanced that you'll start to find it's more involving, especially with the steam engines and keeping the boiler pressures right - no good running out of steam on an incline!

Where the "gameplay" really seems to come in is with things like having to re-arrange wagons in trains, so you end up with lots of "shunting puzzles" to solve, especially when a siding isn't quite long enough to put the wagons in and you have to think of another way to do it. Default scenarios are a bit dull as there's not much else going on, but I've seen some since which are much more entertaining with loads of other traffic going past and lots more to see and do.
