It had come around again fast, the Challenge that is, it was time to take to the skies with the baton, I scarcely had time to call Sharon to check her availability. As expected, she was draped around a Russian oligarch on his liner just off Copacabana beach. carrib.gif
She was excited though that she would soon be able to take to the skies, she said “We’ll meet again don’t know where, don’t know … “(That’s enough singing..Ed) So she could turn up at any place at any time! sharon.gif

So welcome to the first flight of ATWC5. It is my honour to kick off the challenge using the company jet, a Cessna Citation Mustang.

Our flight restriction was a MTOW of 7,000, as you will see below we met that requirement with 500lbs to spare!

This has to be one of the shortest flights at just about 88Nm, 60miles of which is over water, I figure this was why Sharon wasn’t coming, it was too boring for her!

So I filed my flight plan and came back with the following info.

Brian was helping me out today looking resplendent in his “5” shirt with matching tats on his arms.

With baton safely stowed, we are pushing back, shame there was no truck available!
3.jpg

At the hold for zero two we are waiting our departure clearance, Clarence, my co-pilot was doing the comms today, "have we got clearance Clarence?" I joked, he uttered something under his breath as he had heard that one SO many times before.
4.jpg

Lined up and ready for the engines to spool up, the FADEC takes care of the engines, "Full engine power" the aircraft announces as we start to roll.
5.jpg

She is so powerful we only need half the runway, gear up.
6.jpg

Figures confirming the take-off weight  :yesa:
MTOW.jpg

Having turned 180 we are heading downwind and already piercing the cloud.
7.jpg

The icing catches us unaware, I am sure we checked it, with a flick of the switch the de-icers were on.
8.jpg

Passing over the needles, yes John, thats where the NEDUL intersection is  :thum:
9.jpg

Up at TOC we have about 3 minutes level flight before we begin our descent.  "Why bother going so high?!" I hear you cry, "Because I can!"
10.jpg

So a short amount of time to enjoy some externals.
11.jpg

12.jpg

Perfect!
14.jpg

The cloud begins to break up a bit as we start our descent
16.jpg

We'll will be at ORTAC in no time.
17.jpg

Hurrah a turn coming up, all 22 degrees of it!
18.jpg

The turn is so slight we could hardly feel it.
19.jpg

Having hit our mark we swing in on final, you can see how close Froggyland is behind us.
20.jpg

Lined up in plenty of time.
21.jpg

It's just too easy today!
22.jpg

More sporadic rain, typical weather! Turning off 26.
23.jpg

Parked in a remote corner looking a bit dodgy (No not you Alan!)
24.jpg

Covers and tags on chocked and waiting for the next victim .. er John Guest to arrive!

Here's what the flight looked like from space.

I hope you enjoyed my very short flight and thanks for viewing.

Cheers,

Dang Boss I've only just published the first departure board, and now you've gone and made it obsolete ;)

(Just heading out, so it will be a few hours before its adjusted)

Great flight and shots, and a very nice looking livery to go along with it..

A good sign of a top notch PIREP is the feeling that you were along on the flight. Mission accomplished and then some, you have set the bar for this years journey. :thum:

Stand in Sharon looks like he's she's been working out. :D

You wouldn't say that if you saw me in the real world Brett.

The only 'working out' I do these days is Suduko or the crosswords.

I was pleased to get a mention though. :D

Better than me Brian, I couldn't lift a Suduko to save my mind. :D

One thing great about this site is that it is an honor to be mentioned in a posting and if they poke fun at ya at the same time you can feel the love even more.

well I hope you depart with less weight because cessna quotes 3110 feet take off run  at your weight and Guernsey has 2887 feet available, so you may find that the alderney schools have gained an expensive playground toy!! especially on a hot and high day.

From my own experience the end of the runway there comes up awful sudden like .

The C-130 could probably get off in that distance carrying the weight of the Citation, and maybe just enough fuel to get to a larger airport in Frogland.  Not sure it would fit in the cargo bay, however, at least not without some serious disassembly.

Hi James,

Trust me, it's so simple.

At first I was a wee bit apprehensive about joining in the ATWCs but since I did, I realise there is absolutely nothing to it.

When the bidding opens, you just send you bids for whichever leg(s) you wish to fly.

Once the bidding has ended, Micke will put up the leg allocations. You normally get to know by email too.

Then you fly the leg, taking screenshots along the way.

When you have completed the leg, you put a story or commentary to the screenshots and upload it to the PIREP section.

Job done!

Get on board, you would love it I'm sure.

There is nothing to be afraid of. Honest.

It would be great if we had more pilots doing the bidding, that way we get to see and read more PIREPS.

The more the merrier.

Please think about bidding on the next stages, you won't regret it.

I hope this helps to get you on board and also puts your mind at rest regarding the ATWCs.

Cheers

Brian :thum:
