Encase you haven’t seen at the "CCC", I completed this leg early yesterday. Flown in the Boeing 777-200LR developed by the team at PSS it lasted just over 5 hours and took the baton right over the middle east and on into India, more specifically, Mumbai/Bombay. The next leg (number 12) is now open to bidders, and Mutley has said that the destination should be Kathmandu (or another nearby airport) so that he can fly leg 13, via Lulka. The delay in these shots came form the fact that I took 103 of them, and because of my own personal preferences I had to cut that down to Just 30. With a Whisky in hand I settled down to do it after Dr Who. As I got interrupted by landing my A330 on FS in Dubai (flying part one of my return to Europe) I didn’t get them finished last night, but now, here they are. It was a really enjoyable flight, I certainly miss doing long haul, and need to get my heavy’s out over the Easter break, in particular my 747-400 and new 747-200. Edited in the usual ways. The airport has recently seen high levels of traffic with Football charters form the UK. As we push we start the 2 engines sing the auto start system, found on most new Boeing Jets. Once we have 2 clean starts we up the throttle a little and move forward. Preparations for takeoff are well underway. To runway 30. Flaps are set at 15. I don’t really need this, but I have had a few hairy moments in a 747 rolling down this runway. Lining up. TO/GA and the thrust of the two GE90's begins to propel us down the runway. We are not light. Unlike many of the other baton carrying flights so far, this one is a scheduled service. The Baton is in first class though, or rather the courier is. A steep climb as we have the speed to do it. Before long though we level at 5000ft (following out SID) and clean up the aircraft. Turning a full 180 degrees and powering toward Mumbai form Tel Aviv. The initial flight plan took us up to northern Israel, but we managed to get a shorter departure route. Frustratingly though, this bought another problem later on. Level at 5000. As we pass over the relevant waypoint we re initiate our climb. We are going all the way up to FL350. Let’s hope I didn’t miss anything pre-flight. There are not many places to make an emergency landing around here. The PSS model has plenty of 3D buttons to play with effects with. Unfortunately I didn’t get it quite how I wanted it. Cruising over an older destination on the tour, Dubai. This therefore puts us further east than we have been before. A large expanse of water has to be crossed before moving on to Mumbai. We hug the coastline for a bit though. As said, there are not many suitable destination to divert in a 777 should we have a problem. Remember what I said about the SID? Well it resulted in us having way too much fuel (about and hour and a half’s worth) for landing, so we had to dump some. Approaching the Mumbai coast and we are slowing up for landing. Its quiet in the area, most traffic is powered by props... ...and so when we want to land we can. Only 9000ft of runway available though, not much for an aircraft this size. We are flying a full CATIII approach, even though the weather is perfectly clear. It’s my first time here, and I hear that you can easily crash if you drop centimetres below the glide slope. They were not kidding were they! We touchdown smoothly and apply the breaks. Unfortunately we had to turn around and backtrack the runway. Not as easy as its sounds here, there are very narrow taxiways. A happy snapper catches a photo on his way home. It’s quite late in the evening. Over there methinks. To gate 54 says the controller. Plenty of ground services should you need them. A very tight turn had to be made to get on to stand. I’m so glad I was in this aircraft and not some other larger types. Only experience meant I didn’t have to call a tug. The gate docks and my passengers, including the precious baton cargo, disembark. I am last off, leaving the PSS 777-200LR, cold and dark. Well that’s it. As said bidding for leg 13 is now open, although the destination of Kathmandu is preferable. Cracking shots! Just one question: Why did you need FlyTampa's Dubai scenery since you flew to another airport? I didn't. I flew over the airport in my flight, and took a shot of it.
