NOTAM Announcing section 4 - Bidding closed

Greeting all member.

 

With John Guest bringing Section 3 to a close a few days ago with his flight in to Kaitaia it's now time to announce section 4 of the fifth ATWC, and it's a long one.

 

The section is split into 15 legs taking us across New Zealand, Australia and then ends in Port Moresby, Papau New Guinea, covering just shy of 4 900 nm if you fly direct between the airports (The massive departure board can be found at the end of this post).

 

Looking back at the previous sections our European members have had a slight advantage in the bidding process, considering all bidding windows have opened during the day or early evening in Europe, so this time we will give this time advantage to our overseas member.

 

So, the bidding window for section 4 will start at 01:00 UTC on January the 18th.

 

As usual all members on the forum are welcome to participate in our journey around the world, there's no need to be a registered pilot.

 

Bids, in the form of a list of legs each pilot is interested in flying (and any bribe to the scheduler you feel fit), must be sent to atwc@mutleyshangar.com. Bids on the forum, or to my personal e-mail for those that have that one, will not be considered when assigning flights. Also, only bids that arrive on or after 01:00 UTC are considered in the assignment.

 

To make sure I can identify all bids in my SPAM-ridden mailbox please include at least "ATWC 5" in the topic of your e-mail.

 

Also, if you bid for leg 28 or leg 33, please include the plane you are planning to use so we can make sure your bid meets the restrictions in place for those two legs.

 

As usual John Allard have airport diagrams prepared for all destinations. They are already posted in the file library as separate files, but he will also publish a bundle with all diagrams in one file. I'm sure he will post the link here once the bundle is available.

Hope we can get our intrepid pilots to leave the breezy tropical island life for the outback.   

 

Looks like a great section, glad I got ORBX Australia for Christmas. I have been flying this 'for no particular reason' flight plan(easy to get carried away in PlanG  ) on and off in the A2A C172 since I got it.

@Brett: If I remember correctly ORBX Australia adds no enhanced airports, so I strongly suggest you head over to Aussiex and pick up OzX Australia along with Ants Aussie Airports if you haven't done so already.

 

Install OzX 3.0 to 3.3 as well as the OzX Libraries with update to 1.1 from this package

Thanks Micke, I finally got all of this downloaded (It's a lot) and while I was at it I also grabbed all the Return To Misty Moorings Library's and Legacy starting scenery zips. Spent all day doing it and got everything set exactly how I liked it.

 

Took a short flight from YBUD, after quickly looking at a supplied map , headed north along the coast looking for some POI mines and a small airport called Ray's Bay. Never found the airport because I landed at what looked like a small airport in the general area on the map, made a circuit, came in and landed and it ended up being a drag strip. I really need to get a bigger screen and start wearing my glasses.   

 

Thanks for the heads up on this, I had it in my old laptop and forgot all about. I also added the Holgermesh while I was at it. These guys did some great work and it would be silly not to take advantage of it. 

 

I also tried out a short flight in RTMMoorings from Misty's Place and fell in love with the aitport. Started at a boat dock next to the airport and had to taxi my Piper Cub down the river and past the breakwaters to take off. Brilliant, I don't know why I never took the time to read through the site and download everything. Can't wait to start making more flights in this beautiful area of Ketchikan in southern Alaska. I highly recommend it to any bush pilots out there.

 

One odd thing happened when I tried to add Ant's Airports is that I could not activate it in FSX and had to use a freeware SceneryConfigEditor to get it to work. Gotta love FSX to work with it, that's for sure.

Brett, does your installation include Tongass Fjords? I'd like to know if RtMM needs this scenery.

From this section of the RTTM site (under, Links to the Object Libraries You Will Need) it says that you don't really need it but that some of their scenery might use one building or so from it's library but you might not notice it. Tongass Fjords is a great addon for flying in that area of the country so it's worth getting in my opinion, even if you don't get in to the RTTM stuff. Think Holger Sandmann and Bill Womack, you can't go wrong with those two involved.
