dodgy-alan 1,587
Morris dancing. The only thing that makes me ashamed to be British. I love Morris dancing, it's origins are most definately Pagan and so sits comfortably with my beliefs. Border Morris is the darker form whereas Cotswold is seen as the more pastoral side. Border usually involves sticks and the sides often have dark or black colours, whereas Cotswold are generally mainly white and wave the cloths etc. My favourites are Wolfshead and Vixen from Kent, also known as The Pack in Black, They look really menacing being dressed from top to bottom in black and take Border to it's extremes. http://wolfsheadandvixen.com/ No-one's quite sure where Morris originated, but many believe it was a convolution of Moorish Dancing from the middle east. However it is a quintissential English pastime that is enjoying something of a revival.
