hlminx 301
I've been a little lax, for want of as better word, in updating my ORBX Sps.. I have Southern Alaska, Goodwood and California to add on,but there are quite a few service packs listed.. Question: how can I tell how many of the SPs I have already installed? I might have downloaded some SPs but just not installed them.. Is there a way to tell what I have and haven't done? I know that the .LIBS is accumulative, but the SPs don't appear to be. Answers on a postcard... Cheers all Minx
mutley 4,498
Hmm there is a way but I'm not on my FS PC at the moment. Fire up FSX Central and I think you go Tools > Products installed, or something like that and it should give you a list. The other way is to go into the FSX/ORBX folder and into the individual scenery folder and there is an info file there.
Dean33 29
I think if you download the new FTX Central Beta it detects them all automatically for you and tells you what to update. Dean
hlminx 301
Thanks Joe and Dean Very interesting about the beta FTXC..wil have a look at that. I did check out the settings and my ORBX folder but there were more SPs in there than I had ever downloaded so more investigation needed. At least im not missing a trick. Thanks guys. will update
Bruce (a.k.a. brian747) 142
Hi, Steph! Well I'm still using FTX Central v1.0 bld 1043 from June 2014. Anyway, if I click on Tools (top left) and select Reports, there's an option for "FTX Products Installed" that lists all the Orbx stuff I have. (An option that I use quite frequently, given my fuzzy memory...). Whilst we're on this topic, there is a useful (well, I found it useful ) document now available from Orbx called the "FTX Definitive Guide v2". They (Orbx) say: "Volume 1 of a new series of Beginners Guides replaces the old version of the FTX Definitive Guide. It now covers more detail and has step by step instructions on how to resolve common issues. More guides will be released over time to cover each FTX product type in a similar fashion." (It's volume 1 of a new series but version 2 of the previous document, if you see what they mean. Not at all confusing, really... ). It covers some of the topics which I have wondered about from time to time, such as — Scenery data (layers) pp 12 - 17 Recommended installation sequence p 29 Hybrid mode pp 33, 34 Scenery library sequence and Insertion Points pp 38, 39 I recently reinstalled *all* my Orbx stuff on a new machine, and by following their guidance about the order of installation I found that one or two niggling problems had somehow become resolved in the process.... If you're thinking of reinstalling or updating and you think that the guide might be useful for you, too, you can get it from here —http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_id=19916 I found that the most tedious aspect was ploughing through the list at https://www.fullterrain.com/support to find out which updates needed to be applied, since it clearly depends on your starting point in terms of which version of the base installer you use(d) and which updates have been applied, for each product (which you find from the "FTX Products Installed" list). Since I was starting from scratch, in my case I opted to rationalise things a little by downloading all the latest installer versions from my FlightSim store account and hence needing to apply the minimum number of updates. However, the real problem that you need to be aware of is that some of the updates embody their predecessors and some don't, so you have to be rather careful about that.... (And don't forget to apply the most recent Orbxlibs version after everything else!). Good luck with the update! And (finally, I promise!) if you use BOB to walk around your airports, you might be interested to know that he's been released as a triple installer (see http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/94258-ftx-bob-now-available-as-a-triple-installer/#entry856040 ). Bruce (a.k.a. brian747) 142
@Steph I'm very happy it helped. > "...bit of a war and peace gal..." Delighted to hear it, Steph. There are definitely times when a video just can't cut it — notably when there's something detailed, or even important, to say! @ Dean A pleasure, mate! I'm often surprised to find that most people don't seem to use BOB. Cheers, B.
wain 879
Sorry but who is Bob and how does he work? I have never heard of him...I have Global, Vector and LC_EU is Bob in amongst that or is he for airfield addons? Wayne
Bruce (a.k.a. brian747) 142
Hi Wayne! Just follow the link I gave (and the link from there). BOB is a freeware utility — to quote the Orbx blurb: "Meet BOB, the unique free addon from Orbx which lets you get up close and personal with airport and scenery, anywhere in the world. NEW! This V1.1 release adds a control panel where with three different soundscapes for more flexible location specific visits. Now available as a triple installer." Basically, BOB lets you "walk" around your airport scenery to check out the details that you probably won't see from the cockpit, and you can then obviously take a screenshot, too, if you wish. Some people prefer some sort of driveable vehicle for the purpose, but BOB can get up quite a reasonable speed if you push him, so I've never found the need for anything else. And the price is attractive.... Cheers, bruce a.k.a. brian747
J G 927
And I thought that Bob was my uncle.
