dodgy-alan 1,587
RAK Airways A320 taking oil workers from Ras Al Khaimah (UAE) to Ras Al Mishab(Saudi Arabia). It's early afternoon and the weather flown in real time was near perfect, we stayed out over the sea for most of the trip as the thermals over the land get very very bumpy (speaking from personal experience!) RAKs livery blends in perfectly with the stunning blue of the Persian Gulf. Aircraft is FSX payware from JF. Thanks for flying with RAK. شكرا لتحلق مع RAK.

This is the correct scheme for this aircraft. RAK only had 2 A320s. Sorry, referencing that internet dress photo where some folks saw gold and white, others saw blue and black...or something like that. Sorry because it was a stupid completely random reference

dodgy-alan 1,587
Ras al Khaimah is a small port toward the bottom of the Persian Gulf and is governed by a local Emir. It is/was a well known place for tanker crews in the 1970s as it was where crew changes were effected. A shipping company called Gray-Mackenzie operated a fleet of high speed supply launches from there that would come out to the ships. The GM launches were the most welcome sight in the Gulf as not only did they bring crew out but also the mail and stores. (No email or mobile phones then of course). You could hear the engines from miles away as they were based on gunboat hulls. Whenever we got our ships orders, the words "RAK for further orders" meant that in most cases we were going home or getting our mail. The Ras al Khaimah hotel was where we would all get taken until the crew bus arrived to take us to Dubai to fly home. A strange thing about that was the total trust in the country back then. Each hotel room had a phone and as well as the usual stuff like room service, one could also ring up, and arrange to meet, the Emir of RAK ! A few of us did that, he was a lovely chap, very well spoken and very interested in all we said to him. He was pleased that RAK was for us a special place as it was our link home. To this day RAK holds a special place in my heart. http://iss-shipping.com/Microsites/ISS-Ras-Al-Khaimah

Bruce (a.k.a. brian747) 142
The shots were great, Alan, but special thanks for the memories. Those are the sort of thing that never make it into the history books, so they die with those of us that still retain them. But often (IMHO) they're more important than what the Prime Minister did or whatever, since they reflect what *real* people were doing. Cheers, bruce a.k.a. Brian747
