Fying in the 80s

Recommended Posts

I've been intending to backdate my FS, go back in time and fly in the good ol' days, for about a year now. Today, I finally did my first retro flight of a series to come. So great to be back in the classic cockpits after a long time flying the automated glassy birds. Hauling humans from Hamburg to Salzburg in 1980, with Fraser McKay's wonderful freeware Fokker F27 simulation (using Mike Stone's model), so many systems replicated which such a great accuracy and realism, there's always something to do in this cockpit. A very rewarding feeling is guaranteed to engulf you when you get everything (or almost everything) right, from power up to shut down. Even more so if you're addicted to old iron and the good ol' days of aviation. For the scenery part, I'm using the beautiful sceneries available at CalClassic, they replicate airports as they appeared sometime around the early 60s...and I'm flying in the 80s...I know somthing stinks here, but unfortunately there aren't many (if any at all) sceneries replicating the 80s world, so I have to go for the 60s, still better than using modern sceneries. As for traffic, am using the now freeware MyTraffic 2006, some of the most awful models Ive seen, but still the only complete retro traffic package (includes multiple time periods). So......

Everyone seems to have enjoyed their flight, except, maybe, for the surly gentleman on the right...

You're right Dorel, in them 'good ol' days' flying was more about flying and not systems management IMO through rose tinted specs. Interesting find those old 60s airports. Great pics and a nice trip. :thum:

Thank you so much folks, y'all too kind

Maybe in aviation but I certainly wouldn't call the 80's the good old days. :D

Oh, tell me about it, me neither, although I acknowledge the charm of the 60s, 70s and 80s...and even 90s. I don't know boutchoo but for me these were the true, good ol' days ^_^
