bilirubin 50
Having experienced Windows 10 for 48 hours before returning to Windows 7 this means I will not be replacing my CPU for some time. Mike

Quickmarch 488
Good advice from a fellow by the name of Ed Bott on the referenced page (about half-way down) - http://www.techproresearch.com/article/how-long-should-you-wait-before-deploying-windows-10/ This (truism) is evident in most, if not all, sim purchases. It is one of the software industries' biggest failings (IMHO): that they have no problem publishing half-finished work and letting a customer group solve the problems. I know, I know - keeps the dev costs down and the software affordable. I, for one, would prefer to pay twice as much for trouble-free software, starting with my op sys.

MyPC8MyBrain 273
Apple Mac is starting to look far more appealing. funny you brought it up; i was recently studying up on the recent line up of iMac's, through that i got to learn bit more up close about the Mac Pro, it seems to be the way to go now for personal workstation solutions (Not with OS X!), from the design to the performance aspects; I’m simply blown away, I’ve been itching for year's to run on proper Xeon CPU's; i have built my own personal workstation twice based on Dual Xeon CPU, no one had ventured this route for years software wise; and now we get this amazing station coupled with two of them, stock! my only restraints at the moment is the limited dual GPU unit (AMD Cross fire); if this changes in the near future; i can see this station becoming wildly in use for high end work stations and gaming; Mac Pro as it is stock out of the box with windows (and boot camp) stands up with custom built high end stations of today! unless you can justify it for professional work; it’s very expensive,

Tim_A 997
What stops me getting a Mac Pro (apart from the money) is the limited AMD graphics. I do a lot of 3D work using NVidia's Iray, which of course is only hardware accelerated on Nvidia GPUs. Allow me to bung in a brace of Titan Xs, and I'd be golden. As it stands, the hardware requirements would force me to use Windows (spit). I can certainly cost out similar spec Win workstations for a lot less (and the "nice" ashcan design is quickly lost among the rats nest of cables and external drives etc. you need to get the most out of the thing anyway)
