Can't stand the stuff, LOL!:D

It's said to be one of those things you either love or hate and I'm finding that to be true when I let others have a taste.  It runs about 50-50.  I'm in the "like" catagory - have acquired a taste for it but the local market only carries very small jars at a large price.  I was able to get some more reasonably on Amazon but lately Mutley has periodically refreshed my stock directly from the source country.

The person on the counter at the Post Office was sceptical whether the forces that be would allow it into the country (USA), but being an old hand at the transportation of this nectar, I assured her it would be ok as it contains no meat product.

Great to actually see it arrive though, intact :D

I've never tried this stuff. The words Yeast Extract have always put me off from attempting it. I wondered which famine inspired someone to eat yeast instead of the bread or beer? So I googled...Turns out...it was Marketing...and, bottom line, someone desirous of making profit from all that natty brewers yeast laying about the Bass Brewery. :D

Marmite: 100+ years of extracting added value from breweries.

You've sold it to me Coff!

It's quite salty in taste but does you good. (don't let any Aussie tell you Vegimite is better ;) ) Brits of a certain age were brought up on it. (except Dodgy Al! )

Just a by-product.  Attempting to extract revenue from by-products is normal and ethical behavior for well-operated businesses.

I also by the slightly more expensive cat food that lists "Chicken" instead of "chicken by products" :whis:

Bedouin saying. Never name the well from which you will not drink.

ie. IF I ever find myself down to cat food, it's gonna be the good stuff. :D

Side note.

I googled this "Saying" and found an interesting thing. I first read this or similar in one of The Black Stallion novels by author Walter Farley who attributed it to Bedouins. (Mom was/is a horse nut :) ). But a google search attributes it to Marion Zimmer Bradley, fantasy and scifi author from her book Mists of Avalon, which I've never read. I can't find a Bedouin reference on Google, so I am wondering if one of those authors borrowed from the other, or if I am just a horribad Google Searcher. :)
