Just Flight stop development of the 787 Jetliner

Recommended Posts

Many people were eagerly awaiting the release of their Dreamliner project put it has been pulled from their development pages. When asked, Just Flight came back with this statement:

Quote

"Dear Just Flight customer

We have sadly made the decision to stop any further development of our 787 Jetliner project.

We are very sorry to have to bring you this news as we know that many of you have been looking forward to flying the 787, but we have been unable to achieve an acceptable balance between functionality and performance in FSX and Prepar3D.

With that in mind, we have taken the reluctant step of cancelling this project rather than releasing a 787 add-on that is not up to the high standards that we are committed to providing and which you quite rightly expect.

Once again, our sincere apologies.

Best wishes,

The Just Flight Crew"

So it looks like we will have to go elsewhere. :(

Thanks to @Tristarcaptain for the tip off!

That's a shame.  I wonder what the "real story" is, but sure have to take my hat off to a company who realizes that publishing something that they aren't happy with is not likely to make for happy, loyal future customers either.

I suspect that the latest modern airliners are in need of the Next generation of Flight sims to handle their complexity...buggers are getting so computerized that our FScomputers are having to simulate the effects of several Integrated Other Computers on board the aircraft addons...multiple personality complexes perhaps???.

"Open the wheel well doors Hal."

"I/we can't do that Dave, wee suspect a wee...glitch...glitch...a fault in the x-24 relay in #2 central air data computer. Please could you pull the FS mother board and have a look at the (unintelligible), I, we, have a 99.7% confidence that must be the problem.

I am a big fan of Just Flight, they consistently produce great products at very reasonable prices, This action increases my respect for them as it must have been a difficult decision to make.

I guess the Deamliner is not an easy aircraft to model as it is a step away from conventional design, it may have been just too much to simulate well within FSX/P3D's current limitations.

Bravo for JF swallowing their pride and being honest with their customer base.

I agree it is very brave to come out like this and pull the plug, however I also think it is going to show that for once a dev has seen the tak ahead and has been honest and walked. I am sure we have all waited for something that has come out half baked or just never been released.....I have read similar stuf over on XP about the A380, there are a few very lite versions but they are quite poor, the talk is that it would be very difficult like Matt said because of all the systems etc...

Does anyone know the best options for complicated addons...64bit? outside the sim like Majestic Dash?

The other alternative to have something that looks great but is very Arcadey, I hear that's what Aerofly is like, but I have no experiance with that sim...

Fair play to JF though better to take a little grief now than a boat load when you release a dudd.....

I think the best option for most of the big developers like Majestic, PMDG, A2A and such have figured out a way to code a widget that works outside FSX giving them a bit more leeway for adding more features than FSX allows to run due to limitations in its coding. Even then their widgets have limitations too when trying to work within FSX. 64 bit will help but then that to will be limited at first until computers could catch up to ever make full use of the features. Maybe JF does not have those widgets to make comparable high end aircraft or whomever was working on that project bailed.  :twocents:
