Tristarcaptain 282
Maybe this is what flight sim will look like in a few years...? http://www.nbcnews.com/mach/innovation/these-new-designs-are-changing-look-airliners-surprising-ways-n745806
dodgy-alan 1,587
Certainly a lot of great ideas there. The only thing restricting range on electric aircraft is the length of the cable needed to plug it In! BWB designs look good but I can't see airport designers wanting to rebuild hundreds of jetways and terminals to handle. The future looks interesting.

brett 2,310
I don't know, even with todays technology they have a long way to go. If they do figure it out I hope the first aircraft in the article doesn't make the cut, there's no window seats.

Could make for an interesting electric glider tether launch system. Use a power cable/winch cable to power the aircraft's own on-board electric motor during the take off and ascent, spiral up using the power cord tether to the release/glide height, at which time the tether power cable is dropped (a small drop chute or drogue device deploys from the cord to slow it's descent) and the motor switches to on-board batteries, or fold prop and glide to conserve the batteries...which will be fully topped up at 5,000 feet. Would just need a very large/wide flat spot to take off as it would be a curved roll...and room for a mile long power cord...but Only a mile long power cord.
